Last night's episode of Naked and Afraid featured a terrifying challenge, and this time it wasn’t planned by the show’s producers. The show dropped an American and Brazilian survivalist into the wild South African bush, expecting the two of them to overcome their language barrier while surviving in the wilderness. Instead, they joined the show's crew by taking on an entirely new challenge—dodging a herd of angry elephants.

The Cast And Crew Of 'Naked and Afraid' Faced A Challenge They Didn't Expect When A Herd Of Elephants Showed Up At Their Camp.

Nicole, an American from Virginia, stripped down and bared it all in the South African bush with her unlikely partner, Diogo, a Brazilian man who primarily spoke Portuguese. The goal was simple: survive a stay in the wilderness for 21 days— a task made even more difficult by their language barrier.

A new challenge arose halfway through the episode when Nicole awoke to the trumpet of a wild elephant herd crossing a river near the camp. Things took an alarming turn when the herd got closer and eventually stomped right through their base.

Nicole told Diogo that "an elephant just passed right by" and that they were "really close." Diogo saw them too, telling her that one “passed by running through the bushes, and you can’t hear any noise. It’s scary.”

Two Armed Rangers Had To Step In To Protect The Cast And Crew.

It sounds like the irate elephants weren’t happy to see the show’s cast and crew filming on their stomping grounds. The tense situation quickly turned dangerous, forcing armed rangers to step in and protect the survivalists and the entire production crew!

At one point, the two rangers found themselves at the receiving end of one elephant's fury. The two sought to protect themselves by hiding behind a tree, only for the elephant to charge in that direction. The elephant destroyed the tree, but luckily, the rangers made it to safety.

This isn’t the first time the cast and crew of a Discovery Channel show have faced danger. While filming Deadliest Catch, Captain Sig Hansen revealed that the crew of his boat had to save the members of the filming crew twice. He told The Fishing Website, “We have saved their lives twice so far because they were in the wrong place at the wrong time.”
