Netflix Gives Fans First Look At Amy Poehler's Coming-Of-Age Moxie

Just like her iconic turn in Mean Girls, where she played Regina George’s mother, Poehler is once again stepping in the shoes of a “cool mom.” This time for real.

Her rebellious, feminist past will inspire her daughter Vivian to speak up against the sexist status quo at her high school, where boys rank girls according to their attractiveness and are the perpetrators of casual sexual harassment. After finding out her mother’s feminist pamphlets, Vivian will start her own zine anonymously. Distributed at school, those page will spark a revolution.

Moxie features all-female punk band Bikini Kill on the soundtrack and a cast of up-and-coming Hollywood faces, including trans actress Josie Totah and Patrick Schwarzenegger.

Moxie Is Among The More Than 70 Movies Netflix Will Release Throughout 2021

Moxie is among the movies Netflix is going to release weekly as part of their massive film slate for 2021.

Earlier this year, the streaming giant announced their biggest film slate to date, presented by A-listers such as Gal Gadot and Ryan Reynolds. The film program will include more than 70 movies, with highlights such as Malcolm & Marie and action movie Red Notice. Other highlights of Netflix’s program are Zach Snyder’s Army of the Dead and Amy Adams’ The Woman in the Window.

Moxie is Poehler’s second film as a director. In 2019, she was behind the camera of comedy Wine Country. She also served as executive producer.

The film, set in Napa Valley, was written by Emily Spivey and Liz Cackowski. Poehler reunited a group of comedy actors, including friend and fellow Golden Globes host Tina Fey, as well as Maya Rudolph and Paula Pell. This talented bunch plays a group of longtime friends reuniting for a birthday getaway in Napa, where old tensions resurface.

Moxie will be streaming on Netflix on March 3
