Formerly referred to as America's Dad, Bill Cosby has certainly had a tumultuous couple of decades in the industry that has marred all the acting and comedic work he has done in the past. Cosby's television career started back in the mid-1960s with a show called I Spy and became known as the voice of Fat Albert in the widely popular Hey, Hey, Hey, It's Fat Albert animated movie. He continued to work his way up the ranks, being a part of several TV shows and movies and continuing to voice the Fat Albert character, until he ultimately created The Cosby Show, arguably the most popular show he has ever created and worked on.

Bill Cosby's career continued to grow with little controversy until around 2005 when the first allegations against him came out and changed much of America's view about one of their favorite television fathers. And while that case has since come and gone, some new allegations have come to light that may lead to a new round of court cases for Cosby.

Cosby's First Set Of Trials Landed Him In Jail

The road leading up to Cosby's first trials was a long one, with some accusations initially coming out in 2005 from Tamara Green, Andrea Constand, and Beth Ferrier. Constand filed a civil suit against the comedian and was ultimately settled the following year to the tune of $3 million.

Eight years after this civil suit was settled, most accusations against Cosby began to creep back into the forefront, and leading the way was Barbara Bowman, who had accused him of assaulting her and gave testimony to support Constand during her suit.

Bowman wrote an op-ed once called Bill Cosby [assaulted] me. Why did it take 30 years for people to believe my story?, and additional tales of Cosby's less-than-savory behavior started coming out from several women that were allegedly assaulted by him, including supermodels Janice Dickinson and Beverly Johnson.

Things continued to spiral as more of Cosby's alleged victims came forward, with New York Magazine photographing 35 of his victims for a cover story that allowed them to detail what happened to them.

By 2015, over 50 women have spoken out against Bill Cosby and the series of court appearances begins.

He was ultimately sentenced to three to ten years of "total confinement" in a state prison by Judge O'Neill in Pennsylvania. Cosby and his team quickly appealed the decision, citing issues with the way the judge handled the trial.

In June 2021, Pennsylvania's Supreme Court ended up overturning the conviction against him and Cosby was ultimately released from prison, a move that Twitter appeared to vocally disagree with, with many saying that this decision does not mean that he is an innocent man.

He Ultimately Lost A Suit Against One Of His Victims

The conviction against him in the state of Pennsylvania may have been overturned, but Cosby's reputation has already suffered massively and, in the court of public opinion, he is essentially persona non grata.

Just one year after the conviction was overturned, Cosby would find himself back in the spotlight, once again for accusations against him, but this case would not turn out in his favor, with the jury finding him guilty of sexually assaulting Judy Huth in 1975 when she was just 16 years old.

The assault took place at the Playboy Mansion after she accepted an invitation from Cosby to attend the party with her. Cosby, who was around 38 years old at the time, allegedly had a close relationship with Playboy's Hugh Hefner, who has his own interesting history in the industry.

This decision gave validation to the many women that accused him in the past and, unfortunately, didn't get the justice they felt they deserved during the first round of trials, with Huth even saying that she feels "vindicated."

Huth was awarded $500,000 in compensatory damages, with the jury voting in her favor 9 to 3, but no punitive damages were awarded to her. This case was technically happening at the same time as the Pennsylvania case but had to take a back seat to it.

What Are The Details Of The New Lawsuit?

It seems that Cosby may be in for another long road of potential court cases and hearings, as more victims have stepped forward to accuse Cosby of sexually assaulting them in a very similar manner as the other women described.

The suit, which has been filed with the Manhattan Supreme Court, lists not only Bill Cosby as the defendant but also Kaufman Astoria Studios Inc, The Carsey-Werner Company, and NBCUniversal Media as well.

The five women that are coming forward are Lili Bernard and Eden Tirl, both of which appeared on The Cosby Show, aspiring actress Jewel Gittens, aspiring model Jennifer Thompson, and Cindra Ladd, a former friend of Bill Cosby.

Similarly to the other women who have stepped forward, three of the five women allege that Cosby drugged and raped them, and two of the five make no mention of drugs, but describe being touched without their consent.

Just as before, Cosby denies all allegations against him, and people from his camp continue to side with him, hoping that he will be released from "these alleged accusations" against him. They have also said that Cosby is once again looking forward to defending himself in court.

While a dollar amount has not been tied to the lawsuit itself, and no specific trial date has been set yet, there is a high possibility that Cosby will see more time in court because of these new allegations against him. And with the blow he was dealt in the Huth case, it is also possible that things may not go in his favor this time.
