Nick Lachey used to be moderately famous back in the days when he was in the boy band 98 Degrees and dating Jessica Simpson. And then his career peaked when he and Jessica Simpson got married and got their own MTV reality show Newlyweds: Nick and Jessica. But his relevance faded away after he and Simpson divorced, something that Simpson calls her 'biggest money mistake' after she lost a whopping $12 million in the settlement (she hadn't signed a prenup).

A lot happened in Nick Lachey's personal life after his divorce from Jessica Simpson. But the world wasn't all that interested in knowing about it since he wasn't very prominent anymore. Only now, it looks like lady luck has blessed Nick Lachey once again. Not only were he and his wife, Vanessa, offered the chance to host Netflix's dating show Love Is Blind, but their show was also renewed for multiple seasons. And then they were offered the chance to host another Netflix dating show The Ultimatum: Marry or Move On.

Nick Lachey is also the solo host of Netflix's Perfect Match. So, all in all, things are looking really good for the Lachey couple. But all this rising prominence is not appreciated by everyone. Especially die-hard Jessica Simpson fans who believe that Love Is Blind is stirring up bad memories from the time when Nick was still married to Jessica and their married life was fully accessible to the public through their MTV reality show.

So what exactly are they so upset about?

In a subreddit dedicated to Love Is Blind, one user started a hot discussion by sharing that they felt Nick Lachey was being disrespectful to Jessica Simpson by saying 'the 2nd time around is better.'

Other users jumped on and shared their own sentiments on the matter, with some saying that 'Nick was awful to Jessica' on Newlyweds and others pointing out that Jessica had an 'emotional affair' with Johnny Knoxville (they met on the sets of Dukes of Hazzard) while she was still married to Nick.

The latter was confirmed by Jessica Simpson in her tell-all memoir Open Book, where she shared how she used to exchange 'flowery love letters' with Knoxville and how the two shared a strong emotional bond. In Simpson's own opinion, the affair with Knoxville was worse than physically cheating on her husband since 'an emotional connection was what truly mattered.'

There were also a few jokes on the subreddit about Nick Lachey being called 'Nick Lackey'.

Although, one person shared how Nick was really nice to everyone when he and Jessica came to 'their command post overseas' in support of Operation Enduring Freedom (the United States Government's name for the war in Afghanistan and the global war on terrorism). And how Jessica 'behaved very entitled' and couldn't understand that they were in a war and so she wouldn't get all the comforts she usually gets in the USA.

Of course, the identity of the latter user cannot be verified, but there were some people who replied to their comment and said that Jessica Simpson was only 23 at that time and seven years Nick Lachey's junior, so it probably was a difference in maturity levels.

They also said that Nick and Jessica's father were both very controlling toward her.

Nick Lachey And Jessica Simpson Blamed Their Reality Show For Their Marriage Problems

Nick Lachey and Jessica Simpson scored their MTV reality show Newlyweds: Nick and Jessica out of the blue.

Jessica's father and manager, Joe Simpson, found out that MTV was going to do a reality show starring Michael Jackson and Lisa Marie, but it got canceled last minute. So he reached out to MTV and proposed they do a show on Nick and Jessica instead.

The concept was simple. It was a look into Nick Lachey and Jessica Simpson's life after marriage. But they hoped that it would set itself apart from similar reality shows by revealing Simpson's strong Christian values and how they shaped her married life.

The show ultimately turned out to be just like every other marriage reality show, and the couple faced similar problems as every other married couple. Simpson even had a Kendall Jenner-esque moment on the show when she got confused over chicken versus tuna.

Ultimately though, Nick Lachey and Jessica Simpson's marriage apparently broke down because of the growing emotional disconnect between them, their frequent fights over money (Nick felt Jessica spent too much money on unnecessary things), and their inability to communicate effectively.

Nick Lachey even said that the two did not know how to be alone with each other after their reality show ended because they began their marriage while surrounded by filming crew all the time.

Did Unrealistic Expectations Cause Nick Lachey And Jessica Simpson's Divorce?

In the Love Is Blind subreddit post about Nick Lachey bringing up bad memories, one user pointed out that Nick Lachey had unrealistic expectations about his married life with Jessica Simpson.

They were both in the entertainment industry and had busy careers (hers more so than his), yet he wanted her to be 'a traditional housewife' and clean up around the house instead of hiring help (which they could afford).

The two even had a seven-year age difference, with Nick ready to settle down and have kids while Jessica wanted to experience more of the world first.

Ultimately, many users pointed out that Nick Lachey wasn't the only one who had 'regrets about his first marriage.' Jessica Simpson too called 'her first marriage' her greatest financial regret, yet once her retail empire hit a valuation of $1 billion, that past mistake probably wasn't so painful anymore.
