The Video Music Awards wasn’t the only event Nicki Minaj was forced to pull out of this week. Fans were anxiously waiting to see the Trinidadian-born singer-rapper at the annual MET Gala in New York City, but Nicki was a no show this year.

While Kylie Jenner quit attending the Gala for reasons unknown, Nicki Minaj took to Twitter and explained why she wouldn’t be participating in the event.

Nicki Isn’t Vaccinated

Nicki Minaj revealed on Twitter that she can’t attend the 2021 MET Gala because she hasn’t been vaccinated. The annual event has a vaccine mandate and all attendees are required to show proof upon entrance.

Nicki wrote tweets containing highly misleading information about COVID-19 vaccines, claiming that the vaccine made her cousin’s friend impotent. The rapper mentioned that if she does get vaccinated it won't be for a gala, and that she still wanted to research about it.

“They want you to get vaccinated for the Met. if I get vaccinated it won’t for the Met. It’ll be once I feel I’ve done enough research. I’m working on that now. In the meantime my loves, be safe. Wear the mask with 2 strings that grips your head & face. Not that loose one,” Minaj shared in her first tweet.

The singer went on to discuss an incident that happened with an acquaintance of hers. "My cousin in Trinidad won’t get the vaccine cuz his friend got it & became impotent. His testicles became swollen. His friend was weeks away from getting married, now the girl called off the wedding. So just pray on it & make sure you’re comfortable with ur decision, not bullied," she added.

Nicki was instantly slammed by social media users who called her out for being misleading. They also uploaded various memes on Twitter, poking fun at the chaos Minaj had created.

“Girl what in the Caribbean whatsapp is going onnnn,” a user wrote in response.

“Two years into this pandemic and she couldn’t use her connections to connect to an epidemiologist and educated herself,” wrote another.

“Why are we out here listening to clinical scientific research when Nicki Minaj’s cousin’s friend is RIGHT THERE!” shared a third.

“Is nicki minaj really boutta cancel herself like this?” a user wrote.

“Nicki Minaj is cancelled until she smartens up. And I don’t mean her “research”,” gushed a user.

Nicki Minaj later responded to the hate she received, by sharing a tweet brimming with self-affirmation. “I say what I want when I want how I want … Internet don’t scare me.” The pandemic clearly doesn't scare her, either.
