Once a person reaches the highest echelons of fame, it becomes incredibly common for everyone who surrounds them to bend over backward to their every whim. For example, some celebrities make truly peculiar dressing room demands and they have their wishes fulfilled.

Given the fact that a lot of people have trouble getting what they want even infrequently, having everyone bend to your every whim sounds pretty sweet. However, when someone gets whatever they want the vast majority of the time, it can have the unforeseen side effect of turning that person into a weirdo. For proof of that fact, all you have to do is look at all the examples of stars who have weird hobbies.

Even in the often odd world of celebrities, Nicolas Cage still has the seemingly unending ability to come across as weirder than his peers. With that in mind, it may not come as a surprise to most of Cage’s fans that the megastar actor has a bizarre connection to one of the biggest horror icons of all time, Dracula.

Cage Commits

When Nicolas Cage loves something, he goes all in. For proof of that, all you have to do is look at the fact that Cage has gotten married five times. In fact, even after Cage’s marriage to his ex-wife Erika Koike went awry after only four days in 2019, Nicolas still went on to tie the knot again in 2021. Given that Cage is so willing to commit to his romantic partners, it shouldn’t come as a surprise to anyone that he goes to extremes to embrace his roles.

In the 1989 film Vampire’s Kiss, Nicolas Cage portrayed a literary agent who comes to believe that they have been bitten by a bloodsucker. In the years since that movie’s release, several individual scenes from the film have been edited out and posted online for everyone to gleefully mock. If some actors had to deal with one of their films becoming a joke, they would be deeply hurt and likely want to forget everything associated with that movie. When it comes to Nicolas Cage, however, he clearly still loves vampires since he went out of his way to build a connection with Dracula.

Dracula’s Castle

When Bram Stoker completed work on his novel Dracula, there is no way the talented author could have known how much impact that book would have on the world. Now, more than 120 years after Dracula was first published in 1897, there still are millions of people who care deeply about that book’s titular character.

Since Dracula is a fictional character, there are no traces of the vampire’s actual existence to be found in the real world. However, it is no secret that Bram Stoker’s most famous character was partly inspired by tales of the 15th-century ruler Vlad the Impaler and his cruel treatment of his foes. For that reason, a lot of people associate anything related to the ruler who was also known as Vlad Drăculea with the fictional vampire.

In real life, there is a building called Bran Castle in Transylvania that many people associate with Vlad the Impaler. While there is no evidence that Vlad ever lived in Bran Castle’s walls, for a long time it was believed that the 15th-century ruler was imprisoned there at one time. More recently, historians have come to believe that Vlad never set foot in Bran Castle but there is no way to definitively prove that. Due to that lack of proof, many people refer to the stunning building as Dracula’s Castle to this day.

Cage Spends The Night

In 2014, the beloved actor Idris Elba took part in a Reddit AMA to promote a movie of his that was being released at the time. During the AMA, Reddit users asked Elba about several of his past films, and the subject of 2011’s Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance came up. As a result, Elba ended up sharing a story about Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance’s lead actor Nicolas Cage.

To save money, the decision was made to film Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance in Romania. Since Transylvania is located in Romania, that meant that Cage found himself near Bran Castle while making the film. According to what Elba wrote during his AMA, Cage took that opportunity to connect to Dracula.

"Nic Cage came back one day on set, and he came down to set and he looked a little bit tired, a little bit - kind of like he'd been up all night. So I was like, 'Hey Nic man, how you doing man?' And he said, 'I'm alright' and I said 'You seem a little spoked out' [sic] and he said, 'Yeah man, I went up to Dracula's castle...the ruins up in the mountains, and I stayed the night' and i said 'What?! Why|?' and he said 'I just had to channel the energy, and it was pretty spooky up there.' We were shooting in Romania, Transylvania, and he just went up there to spend the night, as you do. And then he walked away. True story."
