Sean Connery played James Bond in the 1965 film, Thunderball, directed by Terence Young. The 60s film is receiving backlash for a sexually violating scene.

No Time To Die director Cary Fukunaga has called out the movie for Connery's take on James Bond. He claims Bond was basically a "rapist" in the film and he believes "Connery’s character basically rapes a woman there."

The plot of this movie is similar to the other two dozen James Bond films. A villain is trying to actively kill Bond as he simultaneously saves the world.

Thunderball is "led by one-eyed evil mastermind Emilio Largo (Adolfo Celi), the terrorist group SPECTRE hijacks two warheads from a NATO plane and threatens widespread nuclear destruction to extort 100 million pounds. The dashing Agent 007, James Bond (Sean Connery), is sent to recover the warheads from the heart of Largo's lair in the Bahamas, facing underwater attacks from sharks and men alike. He must also convince the enchanting Domino (Claudine Auger), Largo's mistress, to become a key ally."

There is a scene in the movie where Patricia Fearing, played by actress Molly Peters, and Bond share an intimate moment.

When James tries to woo Patricia, "she rejects his advances and pushes him away but the spy forcibly kisses her by brutally pulling her lips to his." “She’s like ‘No, no, no,’ and he’s like, ‘Yes, yes, yes.’ That wouldn’t fly today,” said the new 007 director.

Sean Connery was the first actor to play James Bond from 1962 to 1983. Connery passed away in 2020 after portraying 007 in seven Bond films.

The evolution of James Bond has changed so much over the years. The character itself has evolved with the times, as it should.

“I think people are coming around – with some kicking and screaming – to accepting that stuff is no longer acceptable. Thank goodness,” said Broccoli. “Bond is a character who was written in 1952 and the first film came out in 1962,” she said. “He’s got a long history, and the history of the past is very different to the way he is being portrayed now.”
