Some of the most iconic moments in television and movies were not scripted, and to many fans surprise, several of these moments are the memorable kiss scenes that were totally improvised by the actors.

There are a bunch of famous kiss scenes in films and tv shows that were never supposed to happen and were never included in a script. However, these actors felt that they were necessary to make the show or movie that much more powerful, even surprising their co-stars with a smooch! From a favorite Star Wars film to everyone's favorite sitcom, The Office, these kiss scenes below were either controversial or made the scene that much more better.

10 'Lost In Translation'

One of the most memorable scenes in Sophia Coppola's film Lost in Translation is when Bill Murray's character, Bob, and Scarlett Johansson's character named Charlotte, embrace in a kiss that was not scripted.

In the scene, Murray whisper's something into Johansson's ear, which no one knows to this day, and plants a kiss on her lips. Coppola commented on Murray's excellent improvising skills, sharing, "I remember sometimes [Murray] would spring things on [Johansson], and it was fun to get her reaction."

9 'Stranger Things'

In season 2 of Netflix's hit show Stranger Things, actors Caleb McLaughlin who stars as Lucas, and Sadie Sink, who portrays Max, embrace in a kiss that showrunners Matt and Russ Duffer apparently decided to include in the episode on the same day of filming.

However, many fans were angered at the Duffers after it seemed like they made Sink kiss McLaughlin because she was uncomfortable with the idea. But, Sink made it clear that she "never objected" to the kiss.

8 'Star Wars: The Last Jedi'

Whether fans loved or hated Star Wars: The Last Jedi, one of the most monumental scenes is when Luke Skywalker, played by Mark Hamill, tells Leia, portrayed by Carrie Fisher, "No one's ever really gone," before kissing her on the forehead.

The kiss was improvised by Hamill who told Entertainment Tonight that it was important for his character to do "because Luke was saying goodbye to his sister forever." Fisher sadly died a year before the movie was released.

7 'American Hustle'

In the film, American Hustle actress Jennifer Lawrence argues with his husband's mistress, played by Amy Adams. In the heated exchange, Lawrence's character, Rosalyn aggressively kisses Adams' character, Sydney, and after breaking off the kiss, bursts into a cruel laugh.

The movie's director, David O. Russell admitted that the kiss was improvised with Adams adding that the kiss "didn't just feel like a moment where two girls are going to kiss onscreen," but "it felt emotional."

6 'Edge Of Tomorrow'

Edge of Tomorrow stars Tom Cruise whose character gets killed in action but finds himself trapped in a time loop where he repeatedly relives his last battle, with his only friend, played by Emily Blunt, being the only person who understands his situation.

Screenwriter Christopher McQuarrie admitted that he struggled to find a part in the film where he wanted the two characters to kiss. However, when there was a scene where Blunt's character had to say goodbye to Cruise, she planted an unexpected kiss on the star, with Blunt stating, "It just felt right. It felt right and I did it."

5 'The Office'

Every fan of The Office knows the iconic scene in season three when Michael Scott, played by Steve Carell, kisses his employee Oscar Nunez after he outed as gay. Not many fans know that the scene where Scott goes in for a kiss was actually not scripted.

Nunez revealed, "We were just supposed to hug, and he kept hugging me. And that particular take he really came close, and I'm like, 'Where is he going with this?' Oh, dear, yes, here we go.'"

4 'Game Of Thrones'

In season 7 of HBO's Game of Thrones, Yara Greyjoy, played by Gemma Whelan, and Ellaria Sand, played by actress Indira Varma, share a passionate moment before getting interrupted after an attack by Euron Greyjoy.

Both the women told Entertainment Weekly that their kiss improvised, with Whelan sharing, "It just seemed like something we should do. It was meant to be a suggestion [of flirting] and then it became more sexual than we expected because it seemed right."

3 'Jurassic World'

Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard both star in Jurassic World and the kiss they shared in the film was definitely not scripted. According to the actress, the kiss was "spontaneous," but fans later learned that the director, Colin Trevorrow told Pratt to kiss Howard, but he never told the actress.

"The idea was we're just going to have Chris Pratt surprise [Howard] in front of 200 people," the director shared.

2 'The Hunger Games: Mockingjay - Part 2'

Actor Woody Harrelson got the chance to kiss his Hollywood crush when he starred in The Hunger Games: Mockingjay - Part 2 with actress Elizabeth Banks.

The actor confessed that the kiss they shared in the movie was never supposed to happen, sharing, "I have a crush on Elizabeth Banks. I'm not going to lie. I think she's a beautiful woman, I think she's a marvelous actress, and I just love her as a person."

1 'A Room With A View'

Helena Bonham Carter revealed that when she had to kiss her co-star Julian Sands in the film A Room With a View, it was one of her first times kissing someone on camera and in real life. Carter was 18 at the time and admitted that it wasn't hard to not kiss her co-star but to get to him in the scene.

"It's very hard to walk across a plowed field in high heels," she shared, adding, "I just knew I had to get to him without falling down. And then not laugh when he kissed me."
