Sequin Search Comes To An End With Owners Of Bedazzled Pigeon Found

The owners of the rescued bedazzled pigeon have been found.

Earlier this week, we reported that a pigeon wearing a rhinestone-covered vest had been rescued in Arizona. Since most pigeons don’t get perfectly-fitted fake jewel-encrusted vests, the rescuers assumed the bird was a pet and took him to Fallen Feathers Bird Rescue in Peoria, Arizona.

While there, the pigeon quickly gained notoriety for his unusual choice of dress. Rescue workers nicknamed him Liberace in honor of another famous dresser and put the word out on social media that someone’s pigeon had been found and was ready to be taken home.

As it turns out, the internet is a great way to get a hold of someone. The pigeon’s owners have been located and collected their wayward pet later on Tuesday evening.

It turns out the bird’s name is Olive, and he is cared for by Marlette and Norman Fernando and their 10-year-old son.

“I love this bird, and I’m so happy to have her back home,” Marlette told Arizona Central. “I never thought I’d see her again.”

After being reunited with her beloved bird, Marlette crumpled to the ground in tears. “We thought we won the billion-dollar lottery,” said Norman.

Once the family found out that Olive had been located, Marlette sent an email to Fallen Feathers describing Olive’s home life, which the rescue posted on their blog.

The Fernandos live with four rescued pooches, a cat, and “more”, but Olive is the easiest to care for and has the most personality. He gets along well with the family’s menagerie of beasts and flies around the house greeting people in the way they prefer. For Norman, Olive bows to accept head scritches. For Marlette, Olive engages in a round of finger boxing. With their 10-year-old, Olive turns his cheek for a quick smooch.

Olive also has a taste for the finer things in life, which is why his vest is covered in sparkly rocks. He initially rejected his tuxedo-style vest until Marlette covered it in genuine Swarovski crystals. Then he started wearing it all over town.

Marlette suspects that Olive had been planning his adventure since he’d been taken outside several times without issue, but then decided to go out exploring on his own November 7th. He was located by rescuers on November 11th.

We’re over the moon that Olive has been reunited with his family. If you can’t get enough of Olive’s bling, he has his own Instagram account where Marlette posts photos of Olive living his best life.
