Picture Paris Hilton. Blonde? Yes. Glamorous? Definitely. Sunglasses? Usually! This newly engaged star has spent years in the spotlight, and is rarely seen out and about without a big pair of designer shades.

As we all learn more about Paris and her fellow misunderstood '00s girls, she's giving us some insight into the deeper meaning behind this fashion staple - and yes, it actually has to do with Adam Sandler.

Paris Is 'Really Shy'

On Paris' most recent 'This Is Paris' podcast, she shared her take on the #FreeBritney drama. The model-turned-influencer told her podcast co-host that the whole situation had her feeling insecure.

"Having to grow up in the public eye...Britney, Paris, a group of us were just treated very unfairly," Paris says. "It made me think a lot this week just reading all these new things that came out after that Britney film. It makes me really feel for her."

Paris is actually featured in the 'Framing Britney' documentary as another woman who lived with predatory paparazzi around her. She thinks the two have more in common than people think, especially personality-wise.

"I'm actually really shy which a lot of people don't know," she admitted, "And that's why I wear sunglasses a lot because it makes me not shy."

Adam Sandler Inspired Her

Paris goes on to explain the movie scene that kicked off her sunglasses habit. It turns out to be this one, when Adam Sandler tells a little boy that sunglasses have special powers.

"I learned that from Adam Sandler in that movie 'Big Daddy,'" Paris admitted to her co-host. "He puts the glasses on the little boy and he's like, you put these on you're invisible, and I'm like, that's a good idea."

That little boy happens to be Dylan and/or Cole Sprouse, so the cool factor is real! But Paris' desire to be invisible actually points to some deeper issues.

Her Trauma Made Her 'Scared of People'

"When I was little I wasn't that shy but I think after just what I went through just like as a teenager at those schools, it just kind of made me shy because I was just so scared of people," Paris explains on her podcast. "It made me just scared and insecure since then."

She's recently become open about the abuse she suffered at a boarding school as an adolescent. It's dark and heartbreaking, but the star says she's figuring out how to get her confidence back and move forward.

"It's something that will always be with me, but I'm learning to not let it control my life anymore," she says. "So I kind of, I don't forget about it but I feel more secure than I did back then, definitely."
