Paul Rudd and his wife Julie Yaeger are actually quite the Hollywood power couple. He's a famous actor known for defying the laws of aging while she's an entertainment publicist-turned-screenwriter. But somehow, this couple has managed to keep their relationship away from the tabloids.

The two have been married for eighteen years yet many of the actor's fans don't even know he's already married with two kids. Maybe being this secretive is the key to such a long-lasting relationship.

Here's the real story behind this couple's lowkey marriage and family life.

The Unglamorous Way They Met

Paul Rudd got his big break when he played Josh in Clueless in 1995. But it wasn't all smooth for the young actor. While filming the movie, he was mugged at gunpoint. Not long after that incident, his friend died in a car crash which pushed him into a meltdown.

"A few weeks later, he was involved in a bizarre series of road accidents in the space of a week. His car was stolen. He rented a car, but it was totalled in a hit and run. He borrowed a friend’s car, but it aquaplaned. He rented another, but it also got hit," Stephanie Rafanelli wrote in Mr. Porter.

Shortly after that series of unfortunate events, writer and director of Clueless Amy Heckerling asked Rudd to find himself a publicist. So that's what he did. He moved to New York. But bad luck kept following the actor. The day he arrived in the city, he was late for an audition and had gone straight to his publicist's office with his luggage.

Fortunately, a girl working there offered to drop his bags off at his friend's apartment so he could make it to the audition. That lifesaver was Julie Yaeger. Since Rudd was new to the city and hardly knew anyone, he asked Yaeger out for lunch. They instantly hit it off. The Ant-Man star said that he was taken by how mature Yaeger was, considering she was only around 20 or 21 years old at that time they first met. He was 26.

They Have a Normal Married Life

In 2003, Rudd and Yaeger tied the knot after eight years of dating. They had their first child, Jack Sullivan in 2004 and daughter Darby in 2009. The Clueless star prides himself as a family man. And according to him, it has a lot to do with his upbringing. Rudd doesn't come from a family of actors so he was never exposed to fame growing up. He's even one of those dads who can't help but tease their kids with corny dad jokes.

When it comes to marriage, the film This is 40 was actually inspired by Rudd and Yaeger's life together. The couple recorded their everyday conversations to help write the script for the film which is essentially about a married couple struggling to face the fact that they're turning 40. Yes, Paul Rudd's marriage is just as normal and real as most marriages.

Another interesting thing about Rudd's private family life is how he sets a clear distinction between it and his public life. According to him, he still deals with heavy traumas in his personal life. But in public, he keeps his guards up and his words filtered. Because of that, he's never really been relaxed in public appearances. But what those two personas share, he says, is his humor. It's also what he believes to be the secret to marital bliss and overall happiness.

Their Kids Don't Care For The Hollywood Life

Paul Rudd and Julie Yaeger clearly want to keep their kids away from the complexities of fame. They want to pass on their non-showbiz upbringing. And their children seem to be delighted with that. Their son Jack doesn't even care that his dad is Ant-Man.

Rudd told Entertainment Tonight, "I told my own son that I was going to be in a superhero movie. He asked me what it was and I said I will be playing Ant-Man, and he said, 'What?' He was not impressed. What he actually said was, 'Well, I can’t wait to see how stupid that’ll be.'"

Rudd's children eventually came around and are now into the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The actor even revealed that his daughter Darby keeps begging him to spill the plot of the movies. Despite being a cool dad, Rudd still withholds that information from his kids. But we imagine they bond over the movies when they get released. How cool is that for a lowkey Hollywood family, right?
