Pierce Brosnan is a beloved Hollywood actor, but that didn't stop the curators at Madame Tussauds Wax Museum from removing his likeness. It also left fans wondering, had Pierce done something to deserve his de-throning from a place of wax stardom?

In Madame Tussauds' opinion, apparently, the answer is yes. Pierce Brosnan's wax statues were removed from all the branches of Madame Tussauds back in 2005.

So what is the completely terrible thing Pierce did to deserve the removal of his wax figure? Well, he quit being Bond.

Fans will recall that Pierce played 007 from 1995 to 2002, which spanned four movies. He was the Bond to Halle Berry's Bond girl, and also portrayed Bond in a handful of video games. But then, he quit.

While Pierce maintains that he will never regret playing Bond — and was honored to do so — the time came for him to move on to other projects. Plus, as ScreenRant explained, the fact that Brosnan's contract was up anyhow meant that the franchise was giving some thought to a new direction for Bond.

That and Pierce's high fees (and the relatively low influx of cash from the prior film) meant the clock had run out for at least one 007.

So, in 2005, when Daniel Craig became the new face of the 'James Bond' franchise, Madame Tussauds removed all traces of Pierce Brosnan from their Bond exhibits, notes Aces Show Biz. In their place came Daniel Craig, and that's who'll remain until a new Bond — if there will even be one! — is cast.

Though as fans have already heard, speculation that Daniel Craig wanted to quit playing Bond turned out to be true. Craig has stated that the 25th Bond movie — his fifth — will also be his last.

Fortunately, Madame Tussauds hasn't yet melted Pierce down for scrap. In 2019, ahead of the new Bond Daniel Craig's 'No Time to Die,' the wax museum unveiled a special display that included Brosnan's likeness.

The lineup featured all six of the former James Bond actors, including Sean Connery, George Lazenby, Roger Moore, Timothy Dalton, Pierce Brosnan, and Daniel Craig. So while Pierce's wax figure isn't normally on the museum floor for viewing, it must be kept somewhere, properly stored, so that it can be rolled out with the rest of the Bond guys whenever a new film comes out.

Of course, the film didn't debut in 2019, or 2020, but fans are hoping it'll finally come to fruition in 2021 as slated. And it just might mean that the wax figures at Madame Tussauds will again reconvene to celebrate!
