Prince William has defended his family after his brother Harry and sister-in-law Meghan's explosive Oprah interview.

Today, William was visiting a school in east London with wife Kate Middleton, to promote a mental health programme for children.

The Duke of Cambridge was asked by a Sky News reporter, "Is the Royal Family a racist family, sir?'"

"We are very much not a racist family," he said after a question was posed to him.

And when asked if he had spoken to his brother yet, the dad-of-three replied: "I haven't spoken to him yet but I plan too."

The Sussexes made a series of explosive claims about their time as working royals during the two-hour interview with Oprah Winfrey.

These included claims of racism in the palace, where one member of the royal family allegedly brought up "concerns" over Archie's skin tone.

Buckingham Palace issued a rare statement in response, saying the issues brought up were "concerning" and "will be addressed privately."

In a major ratings for CBS, Harry and Meghan spoke the relentless attacks by the British tabloid press.

Meghan argued Archie, unlike his first cousins, her son Archie does not have an HRH title.

Meghan revealed that during discussions about Archie's title, some members of the family had “concerns and conversations about how dark his skin might be when he’s born.”

Meghan, like Harry, refused to identify the family member, saying,

“I think that would be very damaging to them.”

Winfrey spoke to her friend Gayle King in the aftermath of her bombshell interview on CBS This Morning.

“He did not share the identity with me, but he wanted to make sure that I knew, and if I had an opportunity to share it, that it was not his grandmother nor his grandfather [who] were a part of those conversations,” the legendary host said.

She restated, to be quite clear: “Neither his grandmother nor grandfather were a part of those conversations.” But, although he excluded the queen and Prince Philip, she added, Harry didn’t tell her who it was.

In the interview, Harry and Meghan also made comments about William and Kate. Prince Harry told Oprah his brother and father are "trapped" as royals. While Meghan spoke about reports she had made Kate cry ahead of the royal wedding - claiming it was the other way round.
