Prince William has recently come into the spotlight for calling out racism against English football players--however, his treatment of Meghan Markle makes his comments sound hollow to many.

In a tweet from the Kensington Royal account, Prince William stated:

Many people agree that the racist abuse against black players Marcus Rashford, Jadon Sancho, and Bukayo Saka, is wrong and harmful. The three players were attacked with racist rhetoric after losing the Euro 2020 match for mistakes they made during the game, and were blamed for the team's ultimate loss against Italy.

However, people were quick to point out that Prince William has had his fair share of race-related controversy regarding Meghan Markle, which he has not addressed.

After revealing that she was looked down upon by the royal family because she is black, Megan Markle made headlines across the world. Many speculated on which family members had commented on her skin tone. Though some family members spoke out about this, William remained silent, prompting many to ask questions about his role in the matter.

Many are calling William's activism performative, and believe that he is only speaking in support of the players because he has been called out for racism against Meghan Markle before. People aren't buying his sudden sympathy, and multiple people continue to call the prince out on his past behavior.

Much of William's anger over the situation between Harry, Meghan, and the royal family seems to be directed solely at Markle.

William may hold unspoken resentment for his sister-in-law because of past issues between her and his wife, Kate Middleton. It has been reported by insiders that the greatest relationship strain after the interview with Oprah has been between Prince William and Meghan, as opposed to William and Harry.

Because of his strained relationship with Markle, people aren't buying William's change of heart. Some speculate that he was not the one to write the tweet, but rather encouraged a worker for the royal family to write it for him.

Even if he may be trying to amend his past mistakes, the issue with Markle still remains - and likely won't be resolved until she receives an official public apology.
