Netflix will flip the narrative on the iconic romcom with upcoming ‘He’s All That’.

He’s All That is Netflix’s gender-flipped take on the 1999 romcom starring Rachael Leigh Cook as the awkward girl-next-door turned prom queen.

The new film stars TikTok sensation Addison Rae as Padgett Sawyer, a character inspired by Zackary Siler, the role played by Freddie Prinze Jr. in the original movie. Just like Zackary, Padgett accepts the challenge to turn her school’s most nebbish, unpopular student (Tanner Buchanan) into prom king.

Buchanan, known for his role on Netflix’s Cobra Kai, plays shy, dorky student Cameron Kweller, similarly to Leigh Cook’s Laney Boggs in the 1999 movie.

Two Original Cast Members Are Set To Return For Gender-Flipped ‘He’s All That’

Directed by Mark Waters, He’s All That will see romcom queen Leigh Cook return in this new iteration. However, she will play a different role. On IMDb, she’s credited as Anna Sawyer, which indicates she is related to Rae’s character Padgett and probably plays the teen’s mom.

But Leigh Cook isn’t the only original cast member to be making an appearance on He’s All That.

Matthew Lillard, who played Zackary’s friend Brock Hudson in the 1999 movie, will return in an undisclosed role for the gender-swapped reboot. While there’s no news as of yet about a return of Prinze Jr., fans are still hopeful.

“We also need a Freddie Prinze Jr. cameo!!!!” was one comment.

The movie doesn’t have an official release date yet. Additional cast includes Madison Pettis, Peyton Meyer, Isabella Crovetti, Annie Jacob, and Myra Molloy.

Netflix’s Massive Film Slate Includes Originals And Acquisitions

He’s All That is part of Netflix’s massive film slate for 2021, including more than 70 titles.

Earlier this year, the streaming giant announced it would release one new movie a week.

“2021 = a new movie EVERY WEEK on Netflix. Here's a sneak peek at 27 of the biggest, brightest, fastest, funniest, feel-good, feel-everything films and stars coming to Netflix this year,” @NetflixFilm tweeted in January,

Stars of upcoming heist movie Red Notice, Ryan Reynolds, Wonder Woman star Gal Gadot, and Dwayne Johnson introduced some films coming to the streamer this year in a dedicated video. The clip also saw Watchmen star Regina King as well as Lin-Manuel Miranda.

The catalog will predominantly consist of original productions, but it’ll include some acquisitions for a total of 71 titles across different genres.
