Killer Mike is not shy about his political views. He campaigned hard for Senator Bernie Sanders in both the 2016 and 2020 presidential primary races because he agrees strongly with an agenda that centralizes workers, especially black workers. Celebrity activism is nothing new, but when rappers like Killer Mike take on social causes it takes on a different impact than when other celebrities do it. Many have this idea that rap is all about materialistic things, sex, and partying.

This shallow interpretation of the genre erases the fact that famous rappers are human beings, and humans care about things.

When rappers, like Killer Mike, take on a social cause, it pushes back against the stigma that some have about the genre, especially when they donate or advocate for anti-violent causes. But Killer Mike is far from the only hardcore rapper who dabbles in activism, although he is one of the most prominent.

7 Tupac Hated War And Was Raised By An Anti-Capitalist

Tupac's mother is a famous leftist and an anti-capitalist activist. She was a member of the Black Panthers and a member of the Panther 21, a group of Black Panther Party members who got arrested in what some argue was a hit job by the FBI. It would seem her views got passed down to her son. Tupac donated to the Lisa Lopes Foundation when he was alive, whose mission is "Providing neglected and abandoned youth with the resources necessary to increase their quality of life." He is quoted frequently about his infuriation about the existence of poverty. "They got money for war but refuse to feed the poor," is a quote from his song "Keep Ya Head Up" and it has become a slogan commonly seen at left-wing protests.
