'Rattlesnake' Promises To Be Netflix's Next Big Horror Hit

The director’s previous film, 1922, was a horror film based on Stephen King's novella of the same name that starred Thomas Jane.

Netflix will soon premiere Rattlesnake, starring Carmen Ejogo and directed by Zak Hilditch. The horror film, which arrives just in time for Halloween, promises to be the streaming service’s next big hit.

Rattlesnake tells the story of Katrina (Carmen Ejogo), a single mother who is driving cross country to start a new life with her daughter Clara (Apollonia Pratt). After their car breaks down in the middle of nowhere, Clara is bitten by a venomous rattlesnake while her mother is changing the tire. In an effort to save her daughter's life, Katrina accepts help from a mysterious woman, but after miraculously healing the girl, the woman asks Katrina to repay her by killing a stranger in exchange for her daughter’s life before sundown.

According to Hilditch, “I really love movies that, either the ordinary person doing the extraordinary situation or where you’re just solely within a character point of view. Taking an ordinary person who was thrown in one day, so much extraordinary situation.”

The director’s previous film, 1922, was a horror film based on Stephen King's novella of the same name that starred Thomas Jane, Neal McDonough, and Molly Parker, and was released on Netflix on October 20, 2017. The movie received positive reviews, mostly for Jane’s portrayal of Wilfred James, a man who returns Omaha, Nebraska to write a confession to a crime he committed on the family farm in 1922.

Rattlesnake is part of the "Netflix and Chills" line-up, which is the streaming service’s new Sci-Fi/Horror category. The first collection of films was released on September's Friday the 13th and will continue until October 25. Viewers will be treated to 15 movies and shows that are both Netflix originals like Rattlesnake as well as classic horror films like Scream 2 and series like American Horror Story: Apocalypse.

Titles currently available include Marianne (Netflix original), Head Count, We Have Always Lived in the Castle, The Curse of Oak Island, A Haunting at Silver Falls: The Return and The Last Kids on Earth (Netflix original).
