Getting invited to go to the Academy Awards is one thing, but Jennifer Lawrence (worth an impressive $130 million) did much more than just receive an invite — she stunned the red carpet wearing the most expensive gown ever worn at the awards ceremony.

In 2013, the Hunger Games star strutted her way into the venue, showcasing a beautiful blush-pink dress while her hair was tied back, giving off a sophisticated look. The dress itself got a lot of recognition not just because of how expensive it was to produce but also because Jennifer tripped over her train as she walked up on stage to accept her Oscar for Best Actress in the drama-comedy Silver Linings Playbook.

People have often wondered why the dress was so expensive, to begin with, but there’s a very simple answer to that, which probably won’t come as a surprise to some.

Jennifer Lawrence’s $4 Million Dress

Yes, Jennifer’s stunning gown cost $4 million and was put together by Dior — the same fashion house who signed the Hollywood actress to a lucrative three-year deal the following year.

In case you want to know how lucrative, J-Law pocketed a whopping $15 million for the deal, which meant she would only be allowed to wear Dior for any public events including red carpets and after-parties.

Back to the iconic dress worn at the 2013 Oscars, it was only appropriate Jennifer wore the most expensive outfit of the night given that she ended up taking home the biggest female award of the night — Best Actress for her role as Tiffany in 2012’s Silver Linings Playbook starring Bradley Cooper.

The 30-year-old kept things relatively simple not to overshadow Dior’s creation by accessorizing her ensemble with a bejeweled necklace while a chromatic-colored clutch was right by her side as she approached members of the press for interviews at the occasion.

The only other woman to have worn a dress somewhere close to being just as expensive as Jennifer’s dress was Nicole Kidman, who wore the same designer in 1997 for the same awards ceremony, which cost an eye-watering $2 million to make.

As for Jennifer’s big moment accepting her Best Actress award in her $4 million dress, she took to the stage and told the audience: “Thank you. You guys are just standing up because you feel bad that I fell and that's really embarrassing, but thank you,” she joked. “This is nuts.”

“Thank you to the Academy and thank you to the women this year. You were so magnificent and so inspiring, and not just those of you in my category. And it has been so amazing getting to know you. And you've been so nice and you've made this experience unforgettable."

“And thank you to the best producing team: Bruce, Donna, Jon. And to my team at CAA and I/D PR. And Bradley, and our entire cast – Chris, Jacki, Bob – and our crew. And my family. Happy birthday, Emmanuelle. Thank you so much. Thanks.”

In 2015 and 2016, Forbes named Jennifer the highest-paid actress, earning $33 million and $46 million, respectively, and this was mainly thanks to her booming acting roles and the major pay rise she received thanks to having won an Oscar.

In case you didn’t know, actors can negotiate bigger deals when winning a prestigious award.

Meanwhile, in October 2020, the brunette opened up on Heather McMahan’s Absolutely Not Dear Media podcast that her fall as she accepted her award for Best Actress was certainly not staged, despite many people suggesting otherwise.

"I was very nervous and also very superstitious, I didn't want to acknowledge the possibility that I would win," she called about the big night.

She added: "I didn't want to write down a speech, so I have everything in my head and very, very nervous. They call my name, I'm elated and in shock. You kind of back out, I actually don't remember what that moment felt like when they said my name. And then I fell and it just erased everything from my mind and my whole brain went blank.”

Jennifer said seeing comments from people such as TV host Anderson Cooper claiming that her fall was a supposed PR stunt, she definitely wasn’t pleased.

“It was so devastating because it was this horrific humiliation to me. And I'll tell you what, I saw him at a Christmas party and I let him know. My friend told me I had a vein bulging out of my neck. But he apologized and I think we're good friends now.”

Jennifer remains one of the most sought-after actresses in showbiz, earning a cool $15 million per movie.
