Rob Lowe has opened up on having to deal with one of the biggest trolls on his social media: his son John Owen.

In an interview with Seth Meyers, the Holiday in the Wild actor explained how he feels about working with his younger son, a TV writer. He also said that John Owen pokes fun at him on his Instagram pictures, commenting with deadpan jokes.

Rob Lowe Gets Continuously Trolled By His Son John Owen On Social Media

"He’s obviously a wonderful TV writer, but we’ve talked about how he trolls your Instagram and that might be some of my favorite writing of his,” Meyers said.

The host proceeded on showing a series of Instagram posts where Lowe appears to be promoting himself or his hit show West Wing, only to be mercilessly teared apart by his son.

An example? In October 2020, Lowe was promoting a West Wing special with a short clip of him playing chess.

His son roasted him: “We all know you don’t know how to play chess.”

In February this year, Lowe posted a video of him singing and vibing to a rock song.

"No caption needed.. it’s FRIYAY!” the actor wrote.

“Friday?!!!! Who told you to use that word???” his son replied.

Rob Lowe And His Son John Owen Teamed Up On '9-1-1: Lone Star'

Despite their Instagram banter, Lowe and John Owen have a great relationship and they were able to translate it on set for 9-1-1: Lone Star, the spinoff of series 9-1-1.

Fox’s procedural drama sees Lowe as Owen Strand, a New York sophisticated firefighter being relocated to Austin, Texas with his son, T.K. (Ronen Rubinstein).

Co-created by Ryan Murphy, Brad Falchuk, and Tim Minear, the series has John Owen on its writers’ roaster.

"My son actually started working with Ryan Murphy [on American Horror Story] before I did,” Lowe explained.

"When we teamed up to do 9-1-1: Lone Star, they were like, ‘Wait a minute, shouldn’t we actually have Rob Lowe’s son writing on a show about a father and a son?’” he continued.

John Owen “just wrote a crossover episode where all the shows came together,” Lowe explained.

"It was our biggest episode of the year,” he said.
