'World's Kindest Crook' Returns Money To Victim After Seeing Her Bank Balance

A man in China is being hailed as the "World's Kindest Crook" after he returned the money he stole from a woman upon seeing her bank balance.

There are certain things in life that most of us tend to view as things that happen to other people, not us. Bad things such as being mugged or having money and valuables stolen from us. The scary truth is that those things can happen to anyone at pretty much anytime, as a woman at a cashpoint in China recently discovered.

While withdrawing money from an ICBC Bank in Heyuan, a robber approached a woman from behind while brandishing a knife, reports Good News Network. The robber then proceeded to demand the money the woman, identified only by her surname Li, had withdrawn from the cashpoint just seconds earlier.

Li had just withdrawn 2500 yuan from her account, around $371. That's wasn't enough for the opportunist thief who demanded the victim show him how much she had in her account. That's when this out of the ordinary robbery took a strange turn. Upon seeing how much, or presumably how little cash Li had in her bank account, the robber began to laugh and even handed back the money he had already taken from her.

As if a robber refusing to steal from you due to the fact you don't have enough money wasn't bad enough, the entire ordeal was caught on CCTV. You can check it out for yourselves above. The incident being caught on camera also meant that the perpetrator was apprehended soon after, even though he didn't end up stealing any money. Also known only by his surname, Deng, the gentleman explained that he tried to rob the woman due to not having a permanent job.

We felt an awful lot of emotions upon hearing this news. For starters, we can strongly relate to Li. If we were ever to be confronted by a robber at a cashpoint who demanded to see our balance, they would be more likely to make a deposit than force us to make a withdrawal. As amusing a story as it is, and despite Li not losing out on any cash, the fact that she was held at knifepoint shouldn't be ignored. It will have been a very scary moment for her.
