In the history of the music business, there are only a select few singers that could legitimately be called legends, including the likes of Elvis Presley, Michael Jackson, Aretha Franklin, and Frank Sinatra. If there was only one other performer that was could be included on that list, there is a very strong argument that Diana Ross is the person that deserved to make the cut. Of course, that seems very fitting as well since Ross was very close friends with Michael Jackson for many years.

Blessed with the kind of voice that people fall in love with the first time they hear it, Diana Ross could take an average song and make it amazing just by putting her unique touch on it. Also a charismatic performer, Ross carried herself with so much poise and confidence that the masses would line up for hours to see her in the flesh.

Of course, on top of being a world-class performer, Diana Ross was a person who wanted to find love just like the rest of us. Sadly, there is a long list of celebrities who’ve struggled to find lasting love and ultimately, Diana Ross was one of them. However, she did seem to find happiness for a while as she was married a couple of times, including to Robert Ellis Silberstein for several years. With that in mind, it is fascinating to learn about Ross’ relationship with Silberstein.

Other Relationships Of Note

Throughout Diana Ross’ life, there was no doubt that she had no trouble catching the attention of the masses. As it turns out, in her personal life that was also the case as she also caught the eye of one of the most powerful people in music history, Motown CEO Berry Gordy. Of course, most of Ross’ fans would likely feel that Gordy was the lucky one in that relationship. Either way, Gordy and Ross weren’t meant to make it as they went their separate ways.

As we all know, sometimes a couple simply can’t make things work no matter how much they care about one another. Sadly for Diana Ross and her first husband Robert Ellis Silberstein, they ultimately got divorced. Just like a lot of celebrities who’ve gotten divorced several times, Ross wasn’t ready to give up on romance as she married Arne Næss Jr. in 1985. Together for many years, the couple sadly got divorced in the year 2000.

Love At First Sight

According to a People Magazine article from 1976, Diana Ross and Robert Ellis Silberstein met in a pretty remarkable way, when she was shopping for a gift for the man in her life at the time. Noticing Silberstein when she was at a shop, Diana approached him and asked him for his advice on a gift for Berry Gordy.

Almost instantly taken with Robert Ellis Silberstein, in the People Magazine article Diana Ross said that he was “a rare thing, a gentleman who is young, alive and very handsome”. In fact, she was so taken with Silberstein at the time that she referred to him as “all the fantasy things you think of in a husband”. Rise And Fall

During Diana Ross and Robert Ellis Silberstein's marriage, both of them enjoyed a great deal of success. For example, Diana Ross continued to regularly perform on stage and she also branched out into the acting world. For his part, Silberstein’s career also took off as he became a real estate speculator and he also began managing a lot of acts including Ross, Chaka Khan, and Meat Loaf among others.

While things were going good for the couple career-wise, on a personal level they had a lot of joy in their lives as well. After all, the couple had two children together, Tracee, and Chudney. According to the aforementioned People Magazine article, they likely had those kids together as they mostly were homebodies during their time together.

Sadly, Ross and Silberstein got divorced in 1977 but it seems clear that they did a good job co-parenting together. To this day, if you follow their famous daughter, Black-ish actor Tracee Ellis Ross, on social media, it is very clear that she deeply loves her father. Silberstein also remained in the lives of his ex-wife and the step-child he gained from their marriage, Rhonda.
