British screenwriter Adrian Butchart is creating a major movie based on legendary footballer Jamie Vardy who plays for Leicester City. The film has been in the works since 2016, but has recently begun progressing as Oscar-winning producers Gareth-Ellis Unwin and Simon Egan joined the project.

British actor George MacKay (who was seen in Sam Mendes' 1917) was offered the role last year, but these stars are being considered for the role now!

Who Will Play Jamie Vardy?

Adrian Butchart has confirmed he is considering multiple Hollywood stars to play the sportsman's role in the film, including Batman star Robert Pattinson, fan-favorite actor Zac Efron and former One Direction band member Louis Tomlinson.

Leicester City manager Brendan Rodgers is already onboard with the idea of a film based on Vardy, and spoke highly of the footballer. "His story is so unique. It is definitely a movie later in life isn't it," he said.

Robert Pattinson is currently filming Matt Reeves' The Batman, where he portrays the titular caped crusader from the comic books. He will also appear in a film adaptation of Denis Johnson's 1986 novel titled The Stars at Noon, which is being helmed by French director Claire Denis. Pattinson previously worked with Claire on the sci-fi thriller film High Life (2018).

Zac Efron on the other hand is busy filming Down To Earth With Zac Efron; his Netflix documentary series in Australia. The actor recently came under fire for looking different (thanks to multiple cosmetic surgery rumors) but Efron's face has returned to normal and fans are pretty relieved now.

If Louis Tomlinson is cast in the role, the film would be his first major motion picture. The singer-songwriter is known for being a massive fan of the sport and has experience playing football for the Doncaster Rovers football club. One Direction fans are confident Tomlinson "would be perfect", but some are worried about his performance as an actor.

Although he isn't the first One Direction member to star in a film, fans noted Harry Styles portrayed supporting characters before being cast as a leading hero.

Previously, Louis Tomlinson shared his aspirations of starting his own artist management company with his Twitter followers. Starring in a movie is certainly a big detour from that, but we wish him luck!
