The British Royal Family. What do we know about them? We know who they are, where they live, who they're married to, the names of their children. We read about them and watch them on TV. We maybe wonder what could we possibly have in common with a family that travels the world, is rich beyond measure, and lives in palaces and castles across Great Britain, who wear expensive jewels and designer clothes and tailored suits.

But there are some things we do share with the Royals: one of those things being the TV shows we love, they love too. Whilst we settle down in front of our TVs or laptops to catch up with our favorite series, so too do the royals. Some of their favorites may surprise you- though granted some may not! What do they like to watch and why? Let's take a look.

10 The Crown

Well, no surprise here that the Royals love to watch The Crown, particularly Queen Elizabeth II!  And why wouldn't she? After all, the Netflix historical drama series portrays the life of Her Majesty in all its glory and has been a hit on both sides of the pond.  Her granddaughter, Eugenie, is also a fan. So far, three actresses have played the Queen in various stages of her life, namely Clare Foy, Olivia Colman, and most recently Imelda Staunton.

9 Downton Abbey

Another historical drama, this Golden Globe and Emmy award-winning series is set in the early 20th century in Northern England in a fictional Yorkshire country estate, although the series is actually filmed mostly in the South of England at Highclere Castle and is another favorite of the Queen, who seems to enjoy her historical sagas!

8 Game Of Thrones

'In the game of thrones, you either win or you die.' So spoke Cersei Lannister in the popular HBO series, delivering one of many iconic lines. Thankfully, the dynamics in the British family aren't quite as extreme! Both Prince William and his wife, Catherine, aka Kate Middleton, are fans of the show and, like many of us, were disappointed when it came to an end.

7 Mad Men

Another period drama, this time set in the 1960-70s, this one is a favorite of one-time royal, Meghan Markle. Mad Men revolves around an advertising agency in New York and was the recipient of 16 Emmys and five Golden Globes. And why wouldn't Meghan be a fan of an award-winning US drama? After all, she starred in one, namely Suits.

6 Suits

Well, this one's a no-brainer: Prince Harry is a fan of his wife's former TV show, Suits, in which she played Rachel Zane. Fun fact Meghan's actual first name is Rachel, her middle name is Meghan. The question though is was Harry a fan of the show before or after he met his future wife as reports seem to differ.

5 Poldark

Another British historical drama, this time a swashbuckling one starring Aidan Turner and a favorite of William and Harry's father, the Queen's son, Prince Charles.  The series is a remake of the 70s show of the same name and is set in the late 18th century, following the end of the American War of Independence.

4 Killing Eve

The Duke of Cambridge, Prince William is a huge fan of this British spy drama, starring Liverpool's Jodie Comer as the charismatic, if not slightly crazy Villanelle and Sandra Oh as the titular character of Eve. The show was full of dramatic twists and turns and that's probably how William's life has felt recently with his brother leaving the royal family, moving to the US, and speaking out on Oprah.

3 Doctor Who

Apparently, Queen Elizabeth has been a fan of this cult sci-fi series since it first aired in 1963.  She even requested the DVD boxsets to be sent to her Scottish home of Balmoral for when she was staying there. Her favorite timelord to date has been Christopher Eccleston, who was later replaced by David Tennant, and who is returning briefly for some Doctor Who audio adventures later this year.

2 Homeland

William and Kate look so reserved and demure respectively, but they obviously have a thirst for excitement as not only are they fans of Game of Thrones and Killing Eve but they also love Homeland. This edge-of-your-seat espionage thriller, starring Clare Danes,  has been a hit in both the US and the UK and has many fans hoping for a further series, which would take it to series 9.

1 Strictly Come Dancing

Known informally as 'Strictly', this dance competition is the UK version of Dancing With The Stars (actually the show format DWTS is based on) and in fact shares some of the same dancers and even some of the same judges, namely Brit Len Goodman and Italian Bruno Tonioli. The Duchess of Cambridge, Kate, is a huge fan of the UK show which first aired in 2004.
