Over the years, there have been a number of late-night talk shows that never fail to make us laugh. There’s something about its vibe, its music and most especially, the jokes. At the same time, the success of a late-night talk show also depends greatly on the host itself.
That can probably explain why “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon” has been a huge success on television over the years. In fact, according to the website TV By the Numbers, “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon” has been hanging onto the number one spot in recent weeks. This is probably due to the stream of big-name celebrities making their way to the studio for a guest appearance. These include the likes of Nicki Minaj, Daisy Ridley, Madonna, Chrissy Teigen, Keegan-Michael Key, Chris Hemsworth, Selena Gomez, OneRepublic, Sienna Miller, Jonas Brothers and so many more.
And in case you want to watch this show during taping, please know that there are some rules you have to follow as an audience member. These include:
20 You can’t transfer your tickets
If for some reason, you can’t attend the show, you can’t just transfer your tickets to someone else. According to the NBC website, “Tickets are non-transferable. The reservation holder must attend the taping.”
Hence, if you are planning to get tickets to see the show, we suggest that you are sure about being able to attend.
19 Upon check-in, you must have everyone present
“The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon” is pretty clear about this rule. According to the NBC website, “Your entire party must be present to check-in.” Furthermore, it explained, “Checking-in without the entire party forfeits the remaining tickets.”
Hence, you have to make sure that you and your friends are all together while waiting to get inside the studio.
18 You can’t attend the show in large groups
According to the show, “Due to limited studio space, group ticketing is not available and groups larger than four people will not be admitted. Ticket reservations obtained under separate names cannot be combined to accommodate a group larger than four people.”
Perhaps, just try to watch the taping again with your other friends at another time.
17 You have to follow the show’s age requirement
The rules on “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon” state, “No one under the age of 16 will be admitted into the show or rehearsal, regardless of if a parent of [sic] guardian is present.”
This is most likely because the content of the show is really aimed towards more mature audiences.
16 You have to present proper identification during check-in
The NBC website explains, “Each audience member must present a valid photo I.D. containing date of birth.” If you fail to do so, there is a good chance that you and your friends would be turned away.
Moreover, according to some reviews on Yelp, a driver’s license is acceptable so make sure you have it with you even if you’re not driving that day.
15 Large items are not allowed
“The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon” has a pretty strict policy with regard to large items. According to the NBC website, “No backpacks, luggage, or large shopping bags will be permitted inside the studio or the Peacock Lounge.”
Furthermore, the show clarified, “There is no place to store bags on-site, so please plan on leaving any large belongings elsewhere.”
14 You can only attend a taping every six months
According to the NBC website, “Due to the limited number of shows per season and high demand for tickets, individuals cannot exceed more than one show taping within a six-month period. This applies both if you are the reservation holder or the guest of a reservation holder.”
If you want to watch again, make sure you take note of the date that you previously attended the taping.
13 You can choose to attend just the monologue rehearsal too
To be clear, you have to get separate tickets for the monologue.
Moreover, a review on Trip Advisor remarked, “The monologue is about 15 minutes of your life. You will wait in line, jump through hoops and talk to people (about 1.5 - 2hours or more of your life). It's about the overall experience. They gave us a 10% coupon at the NBC store. Was the experience worth it -- Hell yes.”
12 Be guided by the taping schedule
According to “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon,” “Most tapings of "The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon" end by 6:30 pm for a 5 p.m. show, with the taping concluding around 9:30 p.m. for an 8 p.m. show.”
Remember to take note of these times and decide with your friends which schedule would be more convenient for everyone.
11 Arrive at the taping as early as possible
“The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon” has explained, “All television shows must overbook to ensure all seats in the studio are full. The best way to make sure you’ll be able to attend the show is arriving as close to the start of check-in as possible.”
Take note of the check-in time and be sure that you and your friends arrive before it starts.
10 You have to follow a certain order for the seating
According to a review posted on Yelp, “The letters got in first, then the double letters, then white tickets, then the numbers. I got the number so I was far back but for such a large audience (~250 people I believe they said), the room is quite intimate and everyone has a great view.”
9 Prepare to be inside the studio for a few hours
The whole experience takes a lot more than an hour, so make sure you don’t have any other urgent appointments throughout the day.
According to the show, “The taping will last approximately one hour and thirty minutes. Attendees can expect the entire experience, from check-in to the end of the show, to last approximately three hours.”
8 You have to follow the show’s dress code
According to the NBC website, the dress code for “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon” is smart casual.
In case you’re wondering what that means, smart casual is “much more elevated and put-together than dressing for off-hours and avoids items that are too casual or loose-fitting,” according to The Street.
7 Certain outfits are prohibited
Even if you’re feeling rather flamboyant, you must keep in mind that wearing costumes of any kind is absolutely prohibited while watching the taping.
Moreover, rules for audiences on the show also state, “We also reserve the right to deny entry to anyone dressed inappropriately.” Remember to follow the dress code so that you don’t end up losing your chance to watch the taping.
6 Bring something to keep you warm
Just like other studios, the interior can get quite cold. In fact, one review on Yelp stated, “The studio is so cool but cold.
They keep it at 60 degrees so bring a sweater.” Hence, you may want to bring along a coat or jacket to keep you nice and warm.
5 Use your break time wisely
If you need to use the bathroom or grab something to eat or drink, the best time would be right before the show while you are waiting at the lounge.
As one review on Yelp stated, “We waited in the big lobby room [I swear that place needs a bar!] patiently and took our last bathroom breaks until they had us line up by letter number and escorted us to the studio.”
4 You can’t leave your seat during the taping
According to a review posted on Trip Advisor, “If you leave for any reason (even to go to the bathroom), you cannot go back in and will be asked to leave.” As you can see, the show’s production staff is pretty strict about this.
Hence, you may want to just stay in your seat throughout the whole show and enjoy the experience.
3 You can’t use your phone during the taping
A review on Yelp noted, “One thing worth noting is that phones can't come out during the show, so turn them off and stick them away.”
Also, there are some reviews which said that pulling out your phone may cause you to be escorted out of the premises. That will not be fun.
2 You can’t take any photos
One review on Trip Advisor noted, “If they see you take a picture, they will delete the picture, delete the picture from your deleted items folder and you will be asked to leave.”
If you really want a souvenir, will till the end of taping when you can visit the gift shop.
1 Be ready to do some high fiving
One review posted on Yelp explained, “At the end of the show, Jimmy runs up and down the aisles and gives people high fives and some hugs. His hands are VERY SOFT! After Jimmy leaves, the guy comes back and entertains the crowd while they slowly let people leave the studio.”
