Over the years, we have watched as the Divas division evolved into a whole new era of female entertainment. They went from silly gimmick matches, pillow fights, swimsuit contests, and mud wrestling to fighting in Hell in the Cell matches, Table Ladders and Chair matches and many other matches that were once male-only.

On top of all that, they are even headlining PPVs now and weekly shows, something that they never were able to do in the past.

Over the course of their evolution though, new rules have been put into place. Rules that differ from the men’s rules and might seem a bit unreal and unfair to some. In the end, though, they are all there to protect them.

Here are 20 rules the WWE Divas must follow, or they get the boot.

20 They Must Be There And Stay The Entire Show, Even If They Don’t Have A Match

Typically, when a superstar has a match, they wrestle for a few minutes and then are done for the night.

According to thesportster.com, for some Divas though, they are lucky to get any screen time at all. Screen time or not though, they are required to show up and stay for the entire show. By doing this, they are always there in case last-minute changes happen and they are needed.

19 They Must Have Perfect Hair And Makeup At All Times

The female Superstars of the company always must look their best, even when they aren’t working.

According to thetalko.com, it does not matter if they are heading to the gym, getting coffee or posting a photo to their social media, they must make sure their appearance is presentable, otherwise, they could become a negative on the company.

18 Can No Longer Do Playboy

Back in the day, it was not an uncommon practice for a WWE Diva to pose for Playboy for extra fame or money.

According to thesportster.com though, ever since WWE switched to a more family-friendly company, posing for revealing photos is off the table. Some disagree with this rule though, saying what they do on their own time is their business.

17 They Must Seem Available Or Approachable

While working for the WWE, women need to appear available for future storylines. According to thesportster.com, this rule was placed in order to help the creative team sell new storylines and make them more believable.

Then again, even those in a relationship or married seem to be pulled into storylines recently involving other people. Just look at Lana and Maria on recent episodes of Raw.

16 No Dating Officials

This rule is a bit confusing. According to thesportster.com, wrestlers, broadcasters and other co-workers can date one another. These types of WWE employees are considered part-time employees. Full-time employees, production workers, writers, and execs, are unable to date any of the part-time employees though.

This rule is to help keep things even and fair. Making sure no one can play favoritism.

15 They Have A Dress Code To Follow

Many companies have certain dress codes for their employees. The thing with the WWE though, is that they have one even when the Superstars aren’t working.

According to thetalko.com, Lillian Garcia opened up about how Vince feels they need to represent the company at all times. She claims that Vince requires them to wear a dress and heels while not in the ring and traveling.

14 They Must Maintain A Steady Diet And Exercise

It’s already common knowledge that the female Superstars must go to incredible lengths to keep their bodies looking as good as they can, especially with them being on the road all the time and not having proper meals.

According to thesportster.com, between the diets and exercises they put themselves through, anyone on the outside looking in would think they are crazy. It's truly a strenuous lifestyle that they live 300 days a year.

13 Participation In Photoshoots Is A Must

Although female Superstars are not allowed to participate in explicit photos, they have no choice when it comes to WWE photoshoots.

According to thetalko.com, the WWE makes a lot of money selling calendars to the WWE universe featuring some of the WWE female Superstars. Some of the stars though do not feel comfortable posing for these pictures though and would rather just be kicking butt in the ring.

12 No Blue Shorts On Wednesday In North Carolina

This rule is the most out-there and unique rule probably given to any employee.

According to thesportster.com, while performing down in North Carolina, if by any chance they are performing for an event on a Wednesday, they are banned from wearing blue shorts. There is no clear reason as to why just that it’s a law and Superstars like Charlotte would have to change wrestling gear.

11 No Heels In The Ring While In Caramel, California

Just like the no blue trunks on Wednesdays while in North Carolina, California also has a weird rule.

According to thetalko.com, an area in California called Carmel-By-The-Sea, has a rule that women are not allowed to wear high heels while in the ring unless they have a permit. Maybe they feel heels can be dangerous and made the law to protect other in-ring competitors?

10 Don’t Expect Gender Neutral Pay

While female Superstars might be getting more opportunities, their pay has stayed the same.

In fact, according to thesportster.com, a good example would be Charlotte Flair, who makes around 300k a year, and Sheamus, who makes close to one million. AJ Lee actually called out Stephanie McMahon over Twitter a few years ago, saying that for a company that is focusing more on equal gender rights, they are doing a crappy job.

9 No Complaints Are Allowed If Storyline Involves Vince McMahon

Back in the day, we saw quite a few storylines involving female Superstars and Vince McMahon.

According to thesportster.com, although we have not seen a storyline like that since the attitude era, there is a rule that if Vince wants it, they can’t say no. Although they had no say in the matter, they were lucky enough to have their careers meet new heights because of it.

8 WWE Is Allowed To Say No To A Superstar Making An Appearance

When it comes to any outside work or appearances, WWE has the final say on if their Superstars can do it or not.

According to thesportster.com, WWE needs to keep a positive company image and if they feel they will receive bad press for something, they can deny that Superstar to appear.

WWE doesn’t want anything to cause a dark cloud over the company.

7 No Sneezing!!

This rule might seem made up, but it's true and it comes from Vince McMahon himself.

According to thetalko.com, Vince doesn’t want anyone sneezing anywhere near him or at any live events. There is a rumor he set up this rule to avoid Superstars passing on germs and getting other sick. He even gets furious with himself when he sneezes.

6 If You Got It, You Must Flaunt It

Female Superstars have been known to wear some pretty revealing outfits and ring attire in order to capture the crowd’s attention.

According to thesportster.com, WWE has a rule that they must flaunt their assets to make sure all eyes are on them. There are some though that have chosen not to keep things modest such as AJ Lee, Nia Jax, Natalya and Lita. Then again, even Lita flaunted her undergarments straps over her cargo pants.

5 Higher Ups Have Say On Who They Date

This rule doesn’t just apply to the women in the company, but also the men.

According to thetalko.com, if the company doesn’t like whoever a Superstar is dating, they will step in. A good example of this is when Paige started dating WWE Superstar Alberto Del Rio.

Triple H felt that Del Rio was a bad influence on Paige, and he tried to split the two up.

4 Getting Sick Doesn’t Mean They Can’t Work

Becoming a WWE wrestler means a lot of sacrifice in and out of the ring.

According to thetalko.com, there are over 300 wrestling shows a year and that’s not including appearances and promo events the wrestlers also must attend. On top of all that, they always must follow a strict diet and exercise regime, even when traveling.

Getting sick is not an option for them. In this business, there are no sick days.

3 Stay On Stephanie McMahon’s Good Side

Stephanie McMahon is Vince McMahon’s only daughter and she gets what she wants basically.

According to thetalko.com, she can make or break a female Superstars career. Which is why they should always try and stay on her good side. Getting on her bad side could end in three ways, instant termination, getting humiliated during a live show, or being put on the back burner until she feels they have been punished enough.

2 Explicit Photos Are Grounds For Termination

As stated earlier, female Superstars are banned from posing for Playboy now due to the company switching to a family-friendly brand.

According to thesportster.com, this also goes for personal “tapes” or “photos.” Something like that is grounds for immediate termination and could not only ruin a Superstar’s reputation but also WWE’s as well.

Take Paige for example, her reputation was tarnished after her tape scandal. Luckily, she was able to keep her job though.

1 Stephanie McMahon Has Final Say On Storylines

Stephanie McMahon is known as Vince’s daughter, as well as the Chief Brand Officer for WWE.

According to thesportster.com, Stephanie has the final say when it comes to any storyline involving a female Superstar. She wants the females that work for the company to be role models for other little girls and future female Superstars.
