Henry Cavill is currently one of the biggest and most recognizable names in Hollywood.

Of late, the British actor has been on a roll, with prominent roles in Mission Impossible: Fallout opposite Tom Cruise; the incredibly successful first season on Netflix’s The Witcher, where he plays the titular role of Geralt the Witcher,

This success was followed by the news of the release of Snyder Cut on HBO Max along with his rumored deal with WB for reprising his role as Superman in the DCEU.

This is also not to mention his role as the famous Sherlock Holmes in Netflix's hugely popular original series, Enola Holmes, with another Hollywood darling, Millie Bobby Brown.

And now, like the icing on the cake, Marvel Studios is reportedly trying to woo the man too, for a role in the MCU.

According to a known Hollywood insider, Daniel Richtman, the Disney-owned studio wants Cavill for the role of Captain Britain. In the comics, Captain Britain is, as his name suggests, the British version of Captain America, and his alter ego is a man by the name of Brian Braddock.

His existence is already technically confirmed in the MCU, in the form of an Easter egg from Avengers: Endgame (2019), where Hayley Atwell’s Peggy Carter references him.

It seems highly unlikely that we will see this rumor come to fruition, given Cavill’s high-profile status, especially in the world of superhero movies; Cavill already plays the role of Superman for DC. However, Richtman assures that the actor is seriously being looked into for the role.

Currently, Cavill is busy shooting for the second season of The Witcher. He was last seen in Enola Holmes, another Netflix project, portraying the role of Sherlock Holmes. That project was mired in some controversy when it was sued by the Arthur Conan Doyle Estate for the manner in which Holmes was portrayed - however, the case was dismissed by the estate before it ever went to trial.

It is also noteworthy that Cavill had, at the beginning of his career, missed on a number of high-profile roles, such as Edward Cullen in the Twilight franchise, Cedric Diggory in Harry Potter movies, and James Bond, to name a few.

Interestingly, he also missed the role of Superman when Bryan Singer was casting for Superman Returns (2006). He almost missed it the second time as well, for Man of Steel (2013) because he was too busy playing a video game to attend director Zack Snyder’s phone call. Fortunate for fans, it all worked out.
