"Women are mad at me," he said at the time of his breakup. "A girl came up to me on the street, and she almost smacked me. Like, 'How could you? How could you let a girl like that go?"

Gosling continues, "I feel like I want to give people hugs. They seem so sad. Rachel and I should be the ones getting hugs! Instead, we’re consoling everybody else."

McAdams spoke about Gosling being attached to Doctor Strange, "I’d love to work with [Ryan] again. I didn’t know that [he was linked with Doctor Strange]. Benedict was signed on when it came across my plate so he’s the only ever Doctor Strange I’ve known of.”

Ryan himself agrees, his relationship with McAdams was a positive one, and the breakup was caused by one specific factor, their line of work.

"I had two of the greatest girlfriend of all time. I haven't met anybody who could top them," he said of McAdams and Bullock.

As for why the relationships came to an end, Gosling blames it squarely on the business that they're in.

"Showbusiness is the bad guy. When both people are in show business it's too much showbusiness. It takes all of the light, so nothing else can grow."

Well, a decade later, Gosling did in fact have kids and stepped away he predicted. He's a proud papa these days alongside Eva Mendes, as the couple share two children.

Eva Mendes has been complimentary of Gosling as a father, who is teacher his kids that there are no such things when it comes to gender norms.

Mendes tells Forbes, “I’m not an amazing cook - I leave that to Ryan. Hopefully it’s showing my girls that there are no gender-specific roles that one must take on and that we are partners in this and that we’re all partners in this, not just Ryan and I, but our children as well."

"It’s a team effort everyday, so if they see him and I switching off doing certain things that again aren’t specific to stereotypical gender things, I think that just creates balance and harmony.”

Gosling did hold true to his word, taking an acting break between 2018 and 2022. Though it seems like he's back, with a handful of projects lined up.
