Ryan Gosling Went Back To The Start Taking On The Gray Man

The Netflix film, The Gray Man had quite the budget of $200 million. The action/thriller had a star-studded cast, including the Russo brothers behind the camera, and the likes of Ryan Gosling, Chris Evans and Ana de Arms starring in the film.

Ultimately, the film received mediocre reviews at best, but regardless, Ryan Gosling had fun returning to the action genre.

Speaking alongside Collider, Gosling revealed that shooting the film was extra special, given that he first fell in love with the action genre when entering the business.

"This is sort of where it started for me. I always wanted to make an action movie. It was my first love. It made me want to make movies. It took me a long time to get here."

"Obviously, there's a lot of great ones, a lot of great action characters, so it took a while to sort of find the right one, the right team. But when I read this, I knew this was it. Not only just because of the Russos."

Gosling added, "There's like a blue collar Bond quality to it that I thought was really like... just seemed like a lot of fun."

Not only was Gosling excited about the film but behind the scenes, the actor proved to quite the class act with his castmates.

Ryan Gosling Stood Up For Ana de Armas Throughout The Filming Of The Gray Man

According to Alfre Woodard, Ryan Gosling was an absolute class act during his time in the Netflix film. Alongside ET, Woodard recalled a particular situation that saw Gosling standup for Ana de Armas mid-scene.

"I mean, he is a person that looks out for women," she told ET.

"He gets women and every time she [de Armas] asked, said, suggested something and then it kind of went around the whole set ... you know, everybody has an opinion, [but Ryan] always said, 'I’m with Ana on this.'"

Ana de Armas completely agreed with the statement, also complimenting the actor.

“That makes me happy because I admire Ryan so much,” she said.

“I remember when I got to L.A. for the first time, I didn’t really speak English very much and I just got my agents, and I had no way to explain then, and I just memorized it, ‘I just want Ryan [Gosling’s] career.’ Look at this now! It’s so funny.”

Truly a great story and when asked how he's able to keep things so classy on-set, Gosling didn't mix his words, attributing it to one person, his mom.

Ryan Gosling Credits His Mom For Showing Respect To Others On-Set

Gosling has his mother to thank for his great manners and respect towards women. In fact, when Ryan dropped out at of school at the age of 10, he was homeschooled by his mother. Ryan credits his mom for teaching him so much that year, and she would go on to get a degree in education because of it.

Gosling has also done his best to make him mom feel good. That was on full display at the 2007 Oscars, after he told Meryl Streep to compliment his mother's hair, after she felt insecure about her look.

Gosling said, "I wanted to have a nice night, so I didn’t know Meryl Streep, but she was sitting next to me and I said in a commercial break, ‘Would you mind just telling my mom you like her hair?"

Of course, Streep agreed and Gosling's mother had the night of her life after the compliment.
