A Closer Look At Their Relationship

The pair met at a showbiz party in Sydney back in 2002. Even in their first encounter, it seems Isla was a fan of her husband’s deprecating gags; talking to The New York Times, Cohen shared how the pair bonded over “taking the mick” out of other guests.

They eventually married in 2010 and now share two daughters Olive and Elula, and a son named Montgomery. Though Isla is famously protective of her family life and shares very few details about her marriage behind closed doors, when it comes to her husband’s time in the limelight, she has made her opinions heard.

Isla Previously Didn’t Want To Collaborate With Her Husband

Back in 2013, Isla made it clear that she and her husband were happily doing their own things with their careers. Speaking with Business Insider, she expressed how "Personally, I think we collaborate on enough behind closed doors", offering sweet words to elaborate by saying: "We're working on some really important collaborations (our daughters), and I think that's more important."

Although the pair certainly gave a lot of time and devotion to their family, the actress eventually had a change of heart. In 2016, the married couple made their first on-screen collaboration appearance in crude British Film Grimsby, where Fisher played an MI6 secret agent handler alongside her husband's less skilled spy persona.

Speaking to Jimmy Kimmel about the event, Isla shared how her husband approached her asking "will you fit giant yellow glasses, a hat, a glove, and a beard inside your Spanx?". Isla hopped on board the plan by telling people on the day that her husband had food poisoning so wouldn't be able to appear on stage. In reality, after arriving at the event, the pair locked themselves in the bathroom for 45 minutes so Isla could glue on Borat’s trademark beard even though Isla admitted “I’ve never put a beard on before!."

Isla Fisher Was Determined To Have Her Say About Borat’s Punch Lines

Speaking on Jimmy Kimmel Live! , Isla hared how she likes to “be involved” and “watch all the cuts of his [Sacha’s] movies.” Speaking about the Borat sequel, released in 2020, she explained how there was one joke she grew particularly fond of.

"There's actually a joke in this latest Borat one… I found it so funny, it's my favorite joke. I was so attached to it… And then finally when it comes to the last-minute edit, he takes it out!". She was so passionate about this joke that she told her husband: "I won't be able to speak to you again unless you put this joke back in!". Evidently, though, she was quick to forgive him and laughed with Jimmy about how they're "still married."

But Isla Fisher Has Her Concerns About Borat

The Borat Subsequent Moviefilm saw Fisher's husband delve into the divisive elements of American life. The film features Borat at a pro-gun rally, for example, and talking with Marie Claire Australia, the Australian actress revealed how her husband was away for 70 days but kept details about the film secret from her so that she wouldn't worry about him.

"I'm so grateful I didn't know before, so I didn't have to worry," she said, adding how "Sacha was very kind in not sharing what he intended to shoot each day."

Sacha’s Career Inspired Isla’s Comedic Aspirations

Isla has carved out her own name in the acting world, leading numerous titles from Confessions of A Shopaholic to Keeping Up With the Joneses. However, her husband gave a nudge of support to pursue a comedic acting route.

As she told PEOPLE, "Sacha was the reason I got into comedy. I was going up for a lot of dramatic roles and getting rejected. But her husband assured her she was "one of the funniest people I know" and "recommended that I do comedy. He felt I was really funny, so when someone as funny as him recommends that, I listened." Soon after, the actress landed a breakout role in the 2005 film Wedding Crashers.
