Selena Gomez has finally broken her silence regarding her 2018 Met Gala fail in her most recent collaboration with Vogue.

Released September 7 on the Vogue Youtube channel, Gomez talked fans through her “go-to evening routine” in a beauty guru “GRWM” fashion. Step-by-step, Gomez guided the audience through her preferred makeup products and techniques as she worked through her look. However, one specific moment during the routine has left “Selenators” with a reminder as to why it is important to never take yourself too seriously.

Towards the end of the video, Gomez moved on to the next step of her routine: Bronzer. However, before she applied the product, she decides to take a brief pause in the routine to revisit one of her biggest red carpet fails through a light-hearted anecdote, which she calls a “funny story about self-tanner." Gomez then went on to describe how prior to the 2018 Met Gala, she and her team only wished to “add some color” to her look unbeknownst to her that it would continue darkening throughout the evening and thus resulting in one of the biggest makeup catastrophes of 2018.

Gomez mentioned, “We put on some of this tanning lotion and it, you know, looked really beautiful and very even. As the evening kept going on, it was getting a little darker and darker and I didn’t notice it." She rounded off the story by detailing that only after she sat down and saw a picture of herself, she realized that she was “completely orange” also adding that at the time she felt fearful of being “eaten alive” due to the mishap.

However, Gomez didn’t shy away from the anecdote as she recounted the memory with poise and humor, laughing at herself and the situation throughout. Fans were quick to praise the star's self-deprecating humor as they acknowledged the importance of being able to laugh at one’s self and not letting mistakes drag you down.

For example, one fan wrote, “awww my baby, I love that Sel left that incident in the past and she just laughs at the anecdote.”

Whilst another mentioned, “the met gala story plssss she didn’t deserve all the hate. Glad that she’s making fun of it now.”

One fan even reflected on the maturity that Gomez exuded throughout as they praised the singer/actress. They wrote, “It's so crazy how easily she manages to put a smile on my face. Everything about her personality oozes calmness and maturity, Vogue should really keep up with the Selena content. WE ARE SO HERE FOR IT!!!!”

As the 2021 Met Gala approaches (September 13), “Selenators” are hoping that Gomez being able to speak out on and make fun of the past, indicates that she will be returning to the iconic red carpet.
