Selena Gomez is gearing up to release her upcoming Hulu series, Only Murders In The Building, which is set to debut this August. The series, a comedy true-crime show, will be a hit for fans of Gomez and the true-crime realm as a whole.

Gomez is well known in the acting and music industries and has a large following across the entertainment realm. In fact, she was once the most followed person on Instagram. In addition to her talent in the realm, she also has a beauty line, has acted as an ambassador for UNICEF, and shares her physical and mental health struggles with her fans.

While she has focused more on her music career lately, fans are excited about her upcoming Hulu series, and she is, too. She recently shared how much she's looking forward to Only Murders In The Building at a press tour and shared insight about her history in the business.

8 She Signed Her Life Away To Disney

On the press tour, Selena Gomez said that she feels like she signed her life away to Disney at a young age. Glamour shared quotes with fans from the statements she shared with reporters, and while it's easy to assume that she struggled with some of that chapter of her life, it also set her up for the career path she continues to follow today.

“I signed my life away to Disney at a very young age and I didn’t know what I was doing.”

Gomez may not have known what she was doing, but she did impress fans around the world. Many still look back at her roles fondly and adore the characters she portrayed.

7 She Didn't Know What She Was Doing

Selena Gomez says that she didn't know what she was doing in two separate statements about her time with Disney. She feels like she signed her life away to Disney when she was very young, and while she didn't elaborate on that in great detail, it's safe to assume that there were wonderful experiences for Gomez but also stressful and trying ones. Going into a career like acting at a younger age often means you're not prepared fully for what's on the horizon.

6 She Got Her Start As A Child

As a child actor, a lot of Selena Gomez's experience in the business when she started was controlled by those around her. As she grew up in the entertainment industry, she got to a point where she could make her own voice heard, and she is going after roles and exploring avenues that best suit her now. However, we assume that even with the ups and downs of being so young, she enjoyed the process! She starred in many series like Barney and Friends, The Suite Life of Zack & Cody, and Wizards Of Waverly Place.

As Gomez spoke about her time as a child actor, she said she didn't really know anything at the time. Now, however, she feels like a sponge when it comes to her career. She wants to soak up everything she possibly can through her experiences as she continues to hone her skills as an actress.

"...Now I just feel like a sponge, and I soak up all the wisdom that I can."

4 She's Excited About More Sophisticated Material On The Horizon

Selena Gomez's new series, Only Murders In The Building, will air on Hulu beginning August 31st, and she's really excited about the series and what it meant to her. She said that the material was sophisticated, and that's originally why she was drawn to the project. It's going to allow her to show off her acting skills in a way she's been unable to in prior roles.

“What I’d say is the level of sophistication of the material is the first reason why I wanted to do this."

3 She Enjoys Being Cast As Characters Her Own Age

Another perk of the new project is that she's cast as a character of her own age. She says that's not something that usually happens, so the prospect of it now is important to her. She's also excited about her return to television in general.

“It’s just it’s really nice to be back on TV, and it’s nice to be cast as my actual age, which never happens."
