Jonny Depp Emerged Victorious And Amber Heard is "Heartbroken"

The jury found that Heard defamed Depp on all three counts and awarded him $10 million in compensatory damages and $5 million in punitive damages. The judge presiding over the case reduced the $5 million in punitive damages to $350,000.

However, Heard also emerged victorious from her defamation countersuit—and the jury awarded her $2 million in compensatory damages—but no punitive damages.

When all is said and done, the Aquaman actress owes Depp $10,350,000.

Following the verdict, Depp released a statement in which he claimed, “the jury gave me my life back” and that “the truth never perishes." Meanwhile, a representative for Heard told Page Six that the actress is “heartbroken” over the verdict, which she believes will set “back the idea that violence against women is to be taken seriously.”

A Few Famous Faces Weighed In On The Verdict

Tinsel Town’s reaction to the verdict came swiftly, and celebrities who had their ear to the ground during the trial were largely divided on the outcome.

After the verdict dropped, Amy Schumer showed love for Heard by sharing a quote from feminist activist Gloria Steinem on Instagram.

“Any woman who chooses to behave like a full human being should be warned that the armies of the status quo will treat her as something of a dirty joke,” the quote said. “She will need her sisterhood.”

Former The View co-host Meghan McCain also sent out a tweet to show her disappointment with the verdict. She wrote: “#MeToo is dead."

Sharon Osbourne shared her thoughts on Piers Morgan’s TalkTV, saying: “Wow, it wasn’t what I was expecting. I mean, I wanted Johnny to win, but I didn’t expect him to.”

"Today justice was served," The Walking Dead alum, Laurie Holden, wrote in the tweet. "The verdict of the jury sent a message to the world that abuse has no gender and that facts actually do matter. #TruthWins."
