Simon Cowell is known for being a record producer, entrepreneur and talent show judge. He has been the producer and judge on many UK and American reality competition shows such as The X-Factor, American Idol, Britain's Got Talent and more.

He is also the founder and sole owner of the British record company, SYCO, in which many singers from his reality competition shows have been signed under. Basically if you have watched a competition show, Simon Cowell probably had his hand in it somewhere, whether it was on-screen of behind-the-scenes. 14 Simon Cowell And 'American Idol'

Simon Cowell first popped up on the scene when he became a judge on the new singing competition show, American Idol, in 2002. He served as a judge until 2010. He gave very blunt opinions to contestants who just didn't have the gift of singing, with his signature phrase, "I don't mean to be rude, but ..." Cowell was replaced in by Stephen Tyler in 2011 and he went on to create more singing shows.

13 'Pop Idol'

Pop Idol was like American Idol, but in the U.K. He became a judge on Pop Idol in 2001. It was a show he and show creator, Simon Fuller, pitched to ITV. About the show, Maggie Brown from The Guardian stated, "the show became a seminal reality/entertainment format once on air that autumn." Cowell signed the top two finishers or season 1 to his then record company, S Records. Both singers went on to have number one UK hits.

12 'The X Factor UK'

While working on Idol, Simon Cowell was the creator of and judge on the new British singing show, The X Factor UK. It was an instant success and ran for 15 seasons. The X Factor UK has launched superstars into the world of music- Leona Lewis, One Direction and Little Mix, to name a few. Cowell would leave and come back to judge, as he would constantly have other commitments and be launching new TV shows.

11 Simon Cowell And 'Britain's Got Talent'

In 2010, Simon Cowell signed on for the newly-launched talent show, Britain's Got Talent, where people from all walk of life and talent perform stage for one grand prize. He released the show under Syco Entertainment as the creator, producer and judge. Britain's Got Talent is set to air its fifteenth season in 2022. It was the first of the 'Got Talent' franchises and has launched talent such as Susan Boyle and Calum Scott.

10 'The X-Factor USA'

The X-Factor franchise continued when Simon Cowell created the Australian version of the show in 2005 and the American version in 2011. He had left American Idol for good at this point to focus on his new adventures. He was no longer a judge on the UK version of The X Factor, but he retained a role behind the scenes and became a judge on the American version. The American version only lasted for three seasons, but produced superstar group, Fifth Harmony.

9 Simon Cowell's Part In 'America's Got Talent' And It's Spinoffs

After the success of Britain's Got Talent, Simon Cowell, along with Syco, launched America's Got Talent. The show debuted in 2006 and is still on the air. He is the executive producer of the show, but he did not become a judge until 2015 and is still currently a judge on the show today. The show launched AGT: The Champions, where the best of the best from all different 'Got Talent' shows competed for the title of champion. AGT: Extreme, the new version of the show, which showcases dangerous acts, is set to premiere sometime in 2022 with Cowell as a judge.

8 'American Inventor'

In 2006, American Inventor debuted on ABC. Simon Cowell was a co-producer of the show, along with British entrepreneur Peter Jones. Entrepreneurs from across the U.S. competed to who would come up with the best new product. The winner received $1 million. The show was renewed for a second season before going off the air.

7 Simon Cowell And 'Celebrity Duets'

Celebrity Duets is like Dancing With The Stars, but with singing. The show was described as "an Idol show for Hollywood superstars." It was hosted by Wayne Brady with judges Marie Osmond, Little Richard and David Foster. Cowell was an executive producer on Celebrity Duets until it went off the air. It only lasted for one season.

6 'Grease Is The Word'

Grease Is The Word aired in 2007 on ITV. The show set out to find the best performers to play Danny and Sandy for the West End revival of Grease. Simon Cowell was the executive producer of the show, with Zoe Ball as host. Grease Is The Word was judged by Britons David Ian and Sinitta and Americans David Gest and Brian Friedman.

5 'Rock Rivals'

In 2008, Simon Cowell partnered with ITV and Shed Media to produce Rock Rivals. The show was an X-Factor type show. It follows the lives of two celebrity judges as their marriage falls apart. Rock Rivals only lasted one season and was not renewed due to poor ratings and poor reviews.

4 Simon Cowell And 'Red or Black?'

In 2011, Cowell created his first game show called Red or Black? It premiered on ITV and followed contestants, who chose red or black and if they chose the incorrect color, they were eliminated. During the first series, four finalists guessed the color correctly in the final round and became millionaires. The series was renewed for a second season with the format being completely revamped.

3 'Food Glorious Food'

Simon Cowell became the executive producer of the ITV British cooking show, Food Glorious Food. The show searched the country for people of any age, looking for the best home-cooked dish. The winner received 20,000 pounds. It was hosted by Carol Vorderman and the judges were Tom Parker Bowles, Loyd Grossman, Anne Harrison, Stacie Stewart and Andi Oliver.

2 Simon Cowell And 'The Greatest Dancer'

In 2018, Simon Cowell had his first show to air on the BBC called The Greatest Dancer. It debuted in 2019. Competitors, who were undiscovered dance acts, would perform live weekly. Whoever made it to the end, won 50,000 pounds and a performance on Strictly Come Dancing. The show was renewed for a second season but went off the air after it ended.

1 Simon Cowell's New Show, 'Walk The Line'

Walk The Line is Cowell's newest producing adventure. It is a singing competition where the winner each week faces off against new contestants every week and if they win, they can decide whether to stay in the competition and compete for 500,000 pounds. If they decide to leave, they win 10,000 pounds.
