Saturday Night Live will premiere its 47th season on October 2. Owen Wilson will host with Kacey Musgraves is the musical guest. The premiere will air live coast to coast and, for the first time, be livestreamed on Peacock. An article by Variety revealed who is leaving, who is returning and the new cast members this season.

The other hosts and performers were announced for the month of October and some of them had people raising their eyebrows. The week after the premiere Kim Kardashian will host while Halsey performs. Then Rami Malek and Young Thug will take the SNL stage the following week. On October 23, Jason Sudeikis will host as Brandi Carlile will perform.

However, there would be no SNL without its cast members, so it's time to give them some recognition. So, who will we see returning to the stage this year? Who will we be saying goodbye to? And who are we being introduced to? Let's find out.

12 Beck Bennett Is Leaving 'SNL'

On Monday, September 28, Beck Bennett announced his departure from the show. He was best known for his impressions of Russian President, Vladimir Putin and former Vice President Mike Pence. He joined the cast in 2013 and was promoted to regular cast member in 2015. "Love you, SNL Gonna miss you so much Thank you for 8 years of remarkable people and incredible experiences that completely changed my life. I had so much fun," Bennett wrote on Instagram, posting a bunch of pictures from his time on the show. No reason for why he is leaving was given.

11 Lauren Holt Will Be Leaving The Show

Lauren Holt was a featured member on the 46th season of SNL and is sadly exiting after only one season. She posted the news on Instagram, "What an incredible year spent with incredible people. I will always be so grateful. Cheers to all the cast members past, present, & future. So proud to be/have been a part of this amazing family. These three letters will always bring joy to my heart… SNL, I love you." She had not been offered a contract to return for the upcoming season.

10 Kate McKinnon Returns To 'SNL'

Kate McKinnon has been a cast member since 2012. She made it to main cast in 2013 and is returning this season. McKinnon is known for her hilarious comedic sketches, impersonating many political figures including Hillary Clinton, Elizabeth Warren, Jeff Sessions, Lindsay Graham and more. She has starred in other roles outside of SNL, including Ghostbusters, Finding Dory, Office Christmas Party, The Spy Who Dumped Me and more. McKinnon has been nominated for numerous awards and even won an Emmy for the show in 2017.

9 Cecily Strong Is Returning

It was rumored that Cecily Strong might not be coming back this season, but it turns out she is. Strong has been a part of the show since 2012. The next season she became a co-anchor on Weekend Update with Seth Meyers and then Colin Jost. She began season 40 as a regular cast member. In 2020 and 2021, she was nominated for an Emmy award. Strong has also ventured out into acting outside of SNL including roles in Ghostbusters, The Boss, and is currently starring in the show Schmigadoon!.

8 Colin Jost And Michael Che Are Both Coming Back For Season 47

Colin Jost and Michael Che are the co-anchors on the segment Weekend Update. They are both returning for season 47. Jost has been a writer for the show since 2005 and on Weekend Update since 2014. Jost has been nominated for numerous Emmy's but has never won. Michael Che became a writer for the show in 2013 and joined Weekend Update in 2014, alongside Jost. He has also been nominated for Emmy's but has never won either. They two work really well together and it's great to see them back.

7 Kenan Thompson Returns For Season 47

Kenan Thompson joined SNL in 2003, making him the longest tenured cast member in the show's history, with 18 years under his belt. Thompson was a featured member until 2005, where he joined the main cast. He has made a very successful career for himself starring in roles such as Good Burger, Fat Albert, The Smurfs and currently stars and executive produces the show, Kenan. He has been nominated for four Primetime Emmys and won one of those. Thompson is best known for impersonating Steve Harvey, Bill Cosby, OJ Simpson, Charles Barkley and more.

6 Pete Davidson Will Be On Season 47 Of 'SNL'

Being one of the younger cast members on the show, Pete Davidson joined in 2014 at 20-years-old. He will be returning this season. Davidson has had his trouble in his personal life and has been on and off the show since his debut. He has a great relationship with showrunner, Lorne Michaels. Since starring on the show, he has landed other roles like The Suicide Squad and The Angry Birds Movie 2. He is currently filming two movies, They Things They Carried and Meet Cute.

5 Aidy Bryant Is Returning

Aidy Bryant is also returning this season. She has been on the show since 2012 and became a regular cast member in 2013. Bryant has been nominated for four Primetime Emmy Awards but has not won yet. Bryant has played senator Ted Cruz, Sarah Huckabee Sanders, Li'l Baby Aidy and more. Outside of SNL, Bryant has starred in The Big Sick, I Feel Pretty, Shrill and more.

4 The Rest Of The Cast Returning

Besides the big names on the cast, other cast members that are returning are Mikey Day, Heidi Gardner, Alex Moffat, Kyle Mooney, Ego Nwodim, Chris Redd, and Melissa Villaseñor. Two featured cast members from last season, Chloe Fineman and Bowen Young, have been promoted to the regular cast. Andrew Dismukes and Punkie Johnson will return in their featured roles.

3 Aristotle Athari Is A New Cast Member For 'SNL'

Besides the returning cast member SNL usually welcomes new members to the team every few years, and this season is no exception. Aristotle Athari will be joining the cast as a featured member. He is a Los Angeles comedian, actor, writer, and director. Athari appeared in five episodes of Silicon Valley as Gabe. He has also starred in The Coop and Hanging In Hedo and has directed stand-up specials, TV and web series and shorts.

2 James Austin Johnson Will Be New On 'SNL'

James Austin Johnson hails from Nashville, TN, and has a long list of acting credits including Better Call Saul, Hail, Caesar!, All Rise and more. He does a great impression of former President Donald Trump and according to Vanity Fair, he is the "best Trump impersonator of all time." Johnson seems to have a lot of experience under his belt and will be a great addition to the cast.

1 Sarah Sherman Joins Season 47 As A New Cast Member

Sarah Sherman is from Long Island, NY, and is better known as Sarah Squirm. She is a comedian and visual artist known for her traveling show Helltrap Nightmare and is a writer on Netflix's show Magic for Humans. She has been in comedy since 2015. Her outrageous comedic skills will add a fun role to the show.
