The Korean actress Kim Mi-soo, who had a supporting role in the recent series Snowdrop, has died at just 29. Born on March 16, 1992, she appeared in smaller roles in Korean film and TV.

“Kim suddenly left us on Jan. 5,” her agency Landscape announced in a statement on Wednesday. “The bereaved are deep in their sorrow at the sudden sadness. Please refrain from reporting false rumors or speculation so that the family can mourn in peace.” The statement, which was translated from Korean, gave no cause of death.

“As per her family’s wishes, the funeral will be held quietly in private. Please wish for Kim Mi Soo to rest in peace, and once again, we offer our deepest condolences to the deceased." Her funeral service will be held at Taeneung Sungsim Funeral Home.

Snowdrop Supporting Actress Passes Away

Local media credits Kim with appearing in two 2019 movies Memories and Kyungmi’s World, and JTBC’s drama series Human Luwak and Hi Bye, Mama! from tvN and Into the Ring on KBS. The actress also appears in popular shows like Netflix’s The School Nurse Files and the romantic drama Yumi’s Cells.

Kim Mi Soo starred as activist Yeo Jung Min in Snowdrop. Her character is one of Eun Young Ro‘s (played by BLACKPINK‘s Jisoo) dormmates. Although the series is still airing and appears on Disney+ in some regions, filming of the show has ended.

Snowdrop is a popular Korean language romantic melodrama, set against the backdrop of the 1987 pro-democracy movement. The series has sparked controversy over its historical accuracy, the soundtrack and depiction of North Koreans.

The show had reportedly lost its sponsors after a petition to South Korea’s president was started, reportedly gathering over 300,000 signatures. The controversy initially had a negative impact on both the shares of J Contentree and Blackpink agency YG Entertainment.

Fans have been posting condolences on social media after learning about the untimely death of the singer. Posting pictures of the star alongside messages of love, fans will miss the upcoming actress and her role as fourth-year History major student and Young-ro's dorm mate.

Snowdrop has quickly gained popularity, despite only first airing in December 2021. It is based on the memoirs of a man who escaped a political prison camp in North Korea.
