17 years after Alfred Molina played the mechanical tentacle-sporting Doctor Octopus aka Otto Octavius in Spider-Man 2, the actor has returned to reprise his villainous role in MCU's Spider-Man: No Way Home.

After months of speculation and a trailer leak over the weekend, Marvel Studios has reintroduced the multiverse for the third Tom Holland starring Spider-Man flick. The final scene in the trailer revealed a heavily-armed Doctor Octopus, who is back in Peter's life after Doctor Stephen Strange cast a spell that went really, really wrong.

Spider-Man Fans Are Over The Moon

Fans of Sam Raimi's original Spider-Man trilogy are thrilled to see the iconic villain return, in a new teaser trailer for the film. The clip sees Tom Holland's superhero character grappling with his new life after Mysterio revealed his identity to the world, which prompts him to visit the Sorcerer Supreme.

Benedict Cumberbatch's Dr. Strange sports a new work-from-home attire, seems overly chipper and upon Peter's request, casts an ill-advised spell to undo the inconvenience in his life.

A sudden turn of events explodes into the multiverse fans have been longing to see, and eventually brings back Peter Parker's enemies from other timelines, including Doctor Otto Octavius.

"let’s make some noise for alfred molina as doctor octopus!!!" a fan wrote to Twitter.

"after 17 years, Alfred Molina is back as doctor octopus," added another.

"In celebration of doctor octopus comeback in Spider-Man: No Way Home, let me bring back this behind the scene footage!!" shared a third.

The trailer featured sequences where Peter experiences the Astral Plane, the notorious Green Goblin's pumpkin bomb, Sandman's return, Electro's yellow lightning, cities falling to the ground and more of Doctor Strange's epic sorcery. Fans are continuing to speculate whether Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield's versions of Spider-Man will make it to the next trailer, or remain a surprise left to be presented at the big screens. Spider-verse fans will have to wait and watch!

Spider-Man: No Way Home is scheduled to release on December 17.
