Star Wars: 25 Sith From Weakest To Most Powerful, Officially Ranked

Before Marvel Comics created a completely new way to enjoy motion pictures by developing the Marvel Cinematic Universe, otherwise known as the MCU, there was Star Wars, a story about good versus evil and the fight that exists between controlling power and abusing it for your own personal gain. It is a story that puts the viewers right in the middle of the fight between the Jedi and Sith, which has gone on for thousands of years prior to the first Star Wars film.

(Note: The Star Wars franchise has produced 11 films grossing $4.2 billion domestically compared to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, which has created 21 films earning $7.2 billion.)

The Sith were born when a rogue Jedi came to the realization that to achieve their full power, a Jedi must focus entirely on the dark side of the force to unlock their full potential. The rogue Jedi attempted to share his knowledge with the Jedi High Council but was ignored and quickly cast out of the Jedi. However, the seduction of the dark side was so strong that many others followed him and together they formed the Sith.

After the Hundred-Years Darkness era ended, the Sith grew across the galaxy until they eventually were completely destroyed during the Invasion of Naboo, or so the Jedi thought. They would make their return during the Clone Wars where their secret was out. The Sith had returned and would grow stronger and stronger for a very long time.

That is enough about the history of the Sith. Let's take a look at the 25 Most Powerful Sith, From Weakest to Most Powerful.

25 Kylo Ren

via thepolygon.com

There just is not enough attention being given to the power inside of Kylo Ren. He is the first born son to Han Solo and Princess Leia, making him a blood relative to Luke Skywalker. In other words, he has the ability to become as strong as Luke, he just needs to harness it and understand how to control his emotions.

His biggest downfall is his inner struggle between the dark and light side of the Force. That battle keeps him from becoming the powerful Sith Lord he is being trained to be. The light side of the Force holds him down from unleashing the full power of the Force, which he has but has not been able to control it as he should.

We are probably going to finally get a glimpse into the powerful side of Kylo Ren with the latest film, Episode IX, set to be released by the end of 2019.

24 Darth Tenebrous

via comicvine.com

Having been a descendant of Darth Bane, Darth Tenebrous was born into the Sith with his scientific intelligence which he mastered in effort to shape the future. He thought he could figure out the scientific way to change the future of the world and was obsessed with it.

One of his most memorable ideas was the development of a virus that he could target towards the Jedi to break their connection with the Force. He spent several years developing this concept but without ever having it come to life.

But most people did not even know he was a Sith Lord. He was known as Rugess Nome, a legendary starship designer throughout the galaxies.

23 Darth Krayt

via comicvine.com

As much as we would love to assume all members of the Sith were born into it, they were not. A lot of them were actually training to become a Jedi Master but ended up being seduced by the dark side of the Force. This is true for Darth Krayt who was once a General in the Galactic Republic who led his troops into victory in numerous famous battles.

During the Clone Wars, Darth Krayt became friends with Anakin Skywalker, long before he became Darth Vader. His relationship with Darth Vader led to a lot of resentment after Vader was named Sith Lord even though it was Darth Krayt who helped lead the Sith to the destruction of the Jedi, not Vader.

He would eventually have a confrontation with Obi-Wan Kenobi and find himself standing on the outside looking in. So he started the One Sith to rebuild the Sith Order.

22 Darth Talon

via tentaclearmada.com

After Darth Krayt created the One Sith, he began building his force and one of his strongest members was a female Lethan Twi'lek named Darth Talon. Her body tattoos were all given to her from Darth Krayt after each and every battle. Her loyalty to Darth Krayt helped her become his top Hand. Shortly after being named the Hand to Darth Krayt, she began her missions to capture Jedi.

There were also times that other Sith attempted to take over Darth Krayt's role as the leader of the One Sith and Darth Talon stuck by his side, helping him defeat each and every one of them. She even went into hiding after he fell in the Battle of Coruscant.

21 Darth Malak

via elder-geek.com

Darth Malak was instrumental to the Galactic Republic's victory in the Mandolorian Wars as he helped lead them alongside his friend, Darth Revan. The two men both became Jedi Knights and could have become the two most powerful Jedi ever but were fooled into believing the dark side of the Force was the way to go.

He ended up chasing after the Star Forge, after being given the order from the Sith Emperor at the time, which was going to be used to destroy the rest of the Jedi. It was during this era that he emerged with a new Sith Empire, alongside Darth Revan, with plans to eradicate the Jedi's tyranny.

He lost his jaw during a lightsaber duel with Darth Revan leaving a permanent robotic jaw in its' place.

20 Darth Tyranus

via myswff.com

As a Jedi Master, Count Dooku was taught the ways of the Force by Yoda but decided to leave the Jedi Order because of his political ideals. He was confused about what he wanted to do but felt that he should return home and start over without being involved with the Jedi. He then swore his allegiance to Darth Sidious, and began to secretly train as his secret apprentice.

He helped the Sith during the Clone Wars and would have become a very strong Sith Master except for one problem: there was a child named Anakin Skywalker, who was being courted by Darth Sidious to defeat Darth Tyranus and become his new apprentice. He is another story of a Sith who had more potential than they were ever able to show for it.

19 Darth Maul

via slammintunes.com

When it comes to the Star Wars Universe, there are thousands and thousands of stories that have yet been told because it stretches back thousands of years and across a multitude of galaxies. So even when we create a list of the most powerful Sith, there are still many more we have yet to read about, or even see.

The films have tried to do their best to honor the Sith but there is simply only so many minutes they can tell their story. So we are only treated to a limited number of them. One of them, Darth Maul, just might be the best creation of the entire George Lucas databank.

Not only did he sport the best red and black face paint, he had horns and was a skilled lightsaber duelist, which was the reason he owned a doubled-bladed lightsaber, the only one we have ever seen on the big screen.

18 Darth Cognus

via deviantart.com

While on a mission to track down Darth Bane by Princess Serra of Ambria, Darth Cognus, who was best known by her assassin name of The Huntress, found a way to destroy him using a senflax poison. It was a strong enough dose to control him but not destroy him so she could take him back to Stone Prison on Doan.

But during this process, something changed in her and she began to be swayed towards the dark side, eventually allowing Darth Bane to escape the prison if he promised to make her his apprentice. But when they returned to Ambria, Darth Zannah challenged him to become the Sith Master. Darth Cognus pledged her loyalty to the winner of the battle, which ended up being Darth Zannah.

17 Naga Sadow

via starwars.wikia.com

One of the most interesting times for the Sith in the Star Wars universe was during the Great Hyperspace War when Naga Sadow led the Sith Empire in the fight against the Galactic Republic for complete world domination. As a Sith Magician, Naga Sadow was one of the most powerful in the history of the Sith. He was able to use his abilities to nearly defeat the Galactic Republic and win the Great Hyperspace War.

However, just like with many of the Sith leaders, he was brought down by his own apprentice, Gav Daragon, who disrupted his meditation during the war. Naga Sadow was isolated in a Sith meditation sphere, leading the forces using illusionary beasts and ships. Once Gav broke his concentration, the war changed and turned around for the Republic.

He eventually escaped to Yavin 4 and remained in isolation for many years studying alchemy before Freedon Nadd found him and destroyed him.

16 Darth Gean

via deviantart.com

Darth Gean was the Sith Apprentice to Dark Lord of the Sith Darth Gravid. She was a Twi'lek woman that was very sensitive to the Force, which lead to her eventual rise to power in the Sith Order. But it came with a price, as it almost always does for the Sith.

Her master, Darth Gravid, had gotten himself a little confused on the ways of the Force and began trying to destroy all the Sith artifacts and teachings that contained anything related to the Sith by building a Force shield around his fortress. Darth Gean was the only person who could penetrate through the shield and fight Darth Gravid to protect those doctrines and tomes, all of which contained the history of the Sith.

Her battle with Darth Gravid led to her losing her arm, among other body parts, and required prosthetics.

15 Darth Traya

via comicvine.com

Before turning into a Sith Master, Darth Traya was a Jedi historian and Jedi Master who was the teacher to another famous Sith, Darth Revan. He was her padawan and when he went off to fight in the Mandalorian Wars, many of her students followed him. This action forced the Jedi High Council to exile her. She left the Jedi Order and decided to go find Revan, which she did at the Trayus Academy. It was then that she turned to the dark side of the Force and began her ascension to Sith Master.

She was eventually overthrown by the Sith and exiled from them too. This led to her decision to use what she knew of both sides of the Force and wipe them both from the galaxy, for good. Darth Traya was so powerful that she was able to defeat three Jedi Masters on Dantooine. Her power blinded her from seeing that her own apprentice was planning to betray her, which she did on Malachor V.

14 Darth Zannah

via starwars.wikia.com

As a child, Darth Zannah displayed the ability to control the Force to the extent that the Jedi recruited her for their Army of Light, who were used during the Ruusan campaign in the Sith Wars. The Jedi presumed she perished during the battle but she was saved by Laa, who became who best friend. So when a couple of Jedi scouts eliminated Laa, it did not take very much to create an angry female with much power at her disposal.

Darth Zannah had shown her ability to use telekinesis which helped her control her powers when fighting. It was also a weakness because it made her a defensive fighter, instead of an aggressor. So she had to rely on her other abilities like being able to use Sith magic. She was able to use spells to defeat her enemies with ease.

13 Darth Sion

via comicvine.com

One does not get the title of Lord of Pain without having experienced plenty of it himself. Darth Sion earned that name while fighting for Exar Kun's Sith Empire in the Great Sith War. Instead of falling in battle, he was able to use his pain and strife to achieve immortality. But the cost was having to endure the agonizing pain of demise a million times over. However, he did not perish.

He managed to keep himself alive long enough to form the Sith Triumvirate with Darth Traya and Darth Nihilus. They dedicated their lives to restoring the Sith Order while eliminating the Jedi, a ongoing battle that every Sith has within themselves.

He perished after being defeated multiple times by Meetra Surik and eventually giving up and letting himself go.

12 Darth Malgus

via scified.com

At a very young age, Darth Malgus was sent to the Sith Academy after showcasing his dark side by eliminating one of his adopted father's servants. His training in the academy turned him into a Sith Warrior and commander of the Imperial Military. But he then met a Twi'lek girl named Eleena Daru, and fell in love. This would later become his biggest weakness.

Later on, he came to a point where he had to destroy the life of his love in order to save himself and keep his powers. He used that decision to justify eliminating as many of the Empire's politicians who were responsible for keeping the Republic alive all these years. He used his pain to grow even stronger but was still eventually defeated during the Cold War.

11 Freedon Nadd

via starwars.wikia.com

Many fans might argue that Freedon Nadd should actually be much higher on this list because his powers were almost God-like in nature. Freedon Nadd was actually a Jedi before eliminating his master and fleeing for the Sith Order where he would become the apprentice of Sith Lord Naga Sadow.

His powers were strong and he was able to get stronger under his teacher, Naga Sadow. He would eventually defeat him after he realized he had no more use of him and wanted to find more ways to grow his powers. He was almost like a sorcerer with powers that many Sith have not been able to master.

10 Ulic Qel-Droma

via starwars.wikia.com

Very few people in the Star Wars universe can say that they were once a Jedi Knight, a warlord, and a Dark Lord of the Sith. Ulic Qel-Droma is one of the very few that can make such a claim because he started off a Jedi Knight before being poisoned by Satal Keto, a Krath warlord.

Ulic Qel-Droma was a Jedi Knight leading a team on a mission to defeat the Krath when all of the Jedi he traveled with were eliminated by them. He then decided he would go undercover and infiltrate the Krath to take them down from within. But that was a horrible move and Satal Keto turned him into a Dark Jedi who would one day defeat his former friends in the Jedi.

His power was true as he was stripped of his connection to the Force and had to rely solely on his mastery of the lightsaber.

9 Darth Nihilus

via youtube.com

There has never been a human male that was able to survive a superweapon created to destroy his entire planet, Malachor V. They used a Mass Shadow Generator super-weapon to destroy everything and everyone that lived on that planet, except for Darth Nihilus. His survival of this weapon led to his need to reach out to the dark side of the Force. He craved the Force energy, never finding himself satisfied, always wanting more power.

His weakness was also his downfall. Darth Nihilus needed Force energy to grow his strength. Without it, he would eventually grow weak and be easily defeated. So he was able to harness that power by finding planets all over the galaxy that were full of the Force. He was able to cleanse entire planets, feeding off the Force while growing his power.

He would be defeated while battling Surik, Marr, and Canderous Ordo. Surik's ability to feed off the Force was much stronger than his and it kept Darth Nihilus from being able to grow his powers. He was easily defeated.

8 Darth Bane

via starwars.wikia.com

Over a thousand years before the Clone Wars, the battle between good and evil waged on between the Jedi and the Sith. This was the Jedi-Sith War and there was only one Sith to survive this battle, Darth Bane. He single-handily rebuilt the entire Sith after this massacre, with the understanding that they had to stop fighting one another or the Jedi could defeat them with ease.

During his reformation of the Sith, he came up with the Rule of Two, which states that there can only be one Sith Master and an apprentice at one time. The Jedi believed that they had wiped out all of the Sith during this battle but Darth Bane survived and was able to secretly build them back up.

The Rule of Two was instrumental in the reformation of the Sith Empire, which was made known to the rest of the galaxy during the Clone Wars when Darth Sidious was in charge.

7 Darth Vader

via starwars.wikia.com

If you were to randomly ask a stranger to name a famous movie villain, there is a 75% chance they are going to mention Darth Vader because he was, and still is, one of the most popular movie villains of all time.

Darth Vader is the entire reason we even have any Star Wars films. He was in the original and is still mentioned in the most recent films, even though he has been gone for many years. His potential was very raw but also very stacked. Imagine an NFL quarterback that could throw the football further, faster, and better than anyone else but was never able to sharpen his tools into becoming a legend.

That is Darth Vader. He had more potential than any other Sith but was not able to ever fully harness that and turn it into a power he could control. He allowed his heart to prevent him from becoming the Sith Master he was one day going to become.

6 Darth Revan

via reddit.com

Have you ever played Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic back when the original Xbox was still a thing? If so, then you have been waiting to see Darth Revan's name appear on this list. And to be perfectly honest, we were excited to finally have an excuse to talk about Darth Revan.

As a child, Revan was brought into the Jedi and quickly became one of their most promising students, ever. He had a thirst for knowledge and did everything he could to learn as much as he can while going through his training. He eventually became a Jedi Knight and, along with his best friend Malak, led the Jedi to victory over the Mandalorians.

However, during their victory in the Mandalorian Wars, Darth Revan, and Malak, were seduced by Sith Emperor Vitiate and immediately became members of the Sith. That is where we stop his story in case you have never played KOTR.

5 Darth Plagueis

via newmediarockstars.com

How can a Sith Master wind up teaching his apprentice to become even more powerful than himself?

Darth Plagueis, the man that just about all Star Wars fans can agree has a 99.9% chance of being Snoke from the latest Star Wars trilogy of films, Episodes VII, VIII, and IX, was the Sith Master responsible for creating Darth Sidious, who eventually betrayed Darth Plagueis by destroying him in his sleep. His demise is the most important of all the Sith because it sparked the nine Star Wars films by allowing Darth Sidious a chance to become extremely powerful.

His biggest power was the ability to control midi-chlorians for creating life and protecting anyone he chose from their doom. That kind of power was so strong that it turned him into a paranoid Sith Master, expecting the Force to get its' revenge against him one day.

4 Marka Ragnos

via comicvine.com

In order to become a powerful Sith, one must be able to prove themselves worthy of the dark side of the Force. They must be able to do things like defeat any and all of their enemies while also building an army of powerful soldiers to help cleanse the planets of any threats to the leader of the Sith.

In other words, Marka Ragnos is one of the most powerful Sith of all time because he was their leader during the Golden Age of the Sith. He was responsible for growing the Sith through his massive showing of force and power. He was even very proficient with Sith magic, something not commonly used by the Sith, and was able to defeats his enemies using a customized Sith sword, not a lightsaber.

His dueling abilities were enhanced by his ability to use the dark side of the Force to keep himself alive during battles by making him immortal.

3 Darth Vitiate

via comicvine.com

There have been many powerful members of the Sith, but none of them ruled as a Sith Lord longer than Darth Vitiate. His reign went on for 1,500 years and was only possible because of his understanding of the dark side of the Force.

When he was just 10 years old, Darth Vitiate was traveling from planet to planet, wiping out entire civilizations overnight. He even destroyed his own father, Lord Dramath, after being confronted about his destruction. Imagine a ten year old child having God-like powers and the ability to fight back when his parents sent him to bed with no supper.

Since he was so young when he had began mastering his skill set, Vitiate was able to absorb the powers of all the Sith Lords he eliminated during his time as the leader. He became so powerful that he became the only Sith Lord ever to figure out the secret to immortality, almost. He eventually perished but not for a very long time.

2 Exar Kun

via darkervade1.com

Most of the powerful Sith were once members of the Jedi that fell to the dark side after being seduced by the power to grow stronger than they ever could as a Jedi.

Exar Kun was weak in mind and this allowed him to be persuaded to abuse his powers to become a Sith. His natural curiosity led him to a quest to planet Onderon where he found himself discovering the tomb of a former Sith Lord, Freedon Nadd. Upon his discovery, he was able to unlock the soul of Nadd, who was planning on using Kun to be alive again. But as Kun fully accepted the dark side of the Force, his powers grew significantly.

He defeated Nadd and began looking for other powerful Sith to destroy. He was so corrupted by the dark side of the Force that he was wiping out his own people just to make sure he was the most powerful in all the galaxies.

1 Darth Sidious

via swtor.com

One of the biggest differences between the Jedi and the Sith is how an apprentice is trained. Their is no such thing as a secret Jedi Padawan but the Sith have always practiced the art of secretly training their apprentices and Darth Sidious was one of them.

He was taught the ways of the dark side by Darth Plagueis secretly while also portraying himself as a honest public servant known as Sheev Palpatine. Under his given name, Palpatine worked his way up the political ladder and eventually became Emperor of the Galactic Empire. This gave him control over the Republic while also secretly ruling over the Sith.

His abilities stretched from Force lightning to seeing into the future, and he mastered almost all of them while secretly training during a time when the Sith were assumed to be gone forever. There is still a debate about just how strong and powerful Darth Sidious, and with good reason, however, the fact that he was Emperor of the Galactic Republic too, makes his overall power ranking much higher than any other Sith.
