Back in the 2000s, Steve-O was, and still is, known for his over-the-top dangerous stunts in Jackass and all its related forms of media. However, the success of the adventure-comedic show and a series of mental health issues played a part in his downfall to drugs and substance abuse back in 2006, and he subsequently suffered a relapse in 2008.

"I've had horrible mood swings and severe depression. My brain is f***ed up from using so much cocaine, ketamine, PCP, nitrous oxide, and all sorts of other drugs," he said.

However, those ill-fated days are long gone. Steve, now aged 47, is proudly living his life in sobriety. He may be a controversial entertainer, but his story of coming back from the dead has inspired many. To sum it up, here's everything the stuntman has been up to since declaring his sobriety in 2008.

6 Steve-O Competed In 'Dancing With The Stars'

Approximately a year after announcing his sobriety, Steve-O, whose real name is Stephen Gilchrist Glover, teamed up with Lacey Schwimmer to compete on the eighth season of Dancing with the Stars. However, just a week after competing, he could not continue his participation after falling on his mic pack during rehearsal, causing pinched nerve and back spams that held him back in the second week. He was eliminated after the sixth week, but it was definitely a year to remember!

5 Steve-O's Return To 'Jackass'

Prior to 2008, Steve was mostly intoxicated on the set of Jackass to get the adrenaline pumping. However, as he adjusted to the new life as a sober man, his participation in the 2010 film Jackass 3D was a start as something new as it was his sobriety at its best.

"There is no beer on set this time around even if some of us wish there was," Steve's longtime friend, Johnny Knoxville, who also served as the mastermind behind the franchise, spoke highly of his compatriot, adding, "And to be honest it's going great. Everyone has had different injuries throughout which is a good sign and Steve-O is probably getting the best footage out of everybody. He is really going for it. He wants to prove to everyone he can do these stunts sober. It's been two years since he had a drink now. Everyone has been real supportive of him."

4 Steve-O On YouTube

It's still unclear how Steve-O's YouTube journey began, but he's been posting since at least September 2013. He has amassed over 6.13 million subscribers per February 2022, in addition to almost 400 million total views. Pretty much like his Jackass persona, Steve-O takes his fans to the craziest pranks and stunts of his life with his YouTube channel.

"I could not keep a job," he recalled on how he got into the television business in a recent cover interview for GQ, adding, "I had been fired from every single employment situation that I ever attempted, and that was a streak that I kept going for years after that. The only thing that I loved was just f**king playing with video cameras."

3 Steve-O Tried To Be Vegan

Two years into his sobriety, Steve-O announced that he had been adopting a vegan lifestyle. In fact, he had tried to refrain from doing stunts that may potentially harm animals, saying, "As far as a compassionate lifestyle and [it being] healthy for me, for the planet and all the life on it, vegan is really the best way to go. It helps me a lot."

However, in 2018, the stuntman revealed that he's no longer a vegan while blasting "militant" and "annoying" vegans who advocate "more harm than good." He'd ditched veganism and become a pescatarian instead, meaning that he still eats fish products.

2 Steve-O Starred In Sam Macaroni's Comedy 'Guest House'

In addition to his crazy stunts in Jackass, Steve has also broadened his entertainment portfolio by starring in Sam Macaroni's comedy Guest House back in 2020. Starring alongside the likes of Pauly Shore, Mike Castle, Aimee Teegarden, Mikaela Hoover, and more, the stoner comedy flick takes the premise of a young engaged couple who find their new dream home before discovering a party animal who lives in the guesthouse. Despite its lackluster critical performance, Guest House is a fun one hour and a half ride, nonetheless.

1 What's Next For Steve-O?

So, what's next for the controversial TV star? Now in his immaculate maturity, as he's almost pushing to his 50s, Steve-O is still very active in the entertainment business. This year, another Jackass film was released, but it wasn't without a sacrifice as both he and Knoxville were hospitalized during the first two days of its production. Either way, the movie is a big commercial and critical success, and it's safe to say that it was worth all the hassle.
