Steven Tyler Changed His Voice On The First Aerosmith Album Out Of Insecurity

Aerosmith first formed in Boston in 1970. The group consists of Steven Tyler (lead vocals), Joe Perry (guitar), Tom Hamilton (bass), Joey Kramer (drums) and Brad Whitford (guitar.)

In the Aerosmith autobiography "Walk This Way", Tyler admitted that he changed his voice on their first few albums because he didn't like the sound of it. He even tried to sing a bit lower and sound more like soul artists, such as James Brown.

A producer also advised him to sing differently and it being his first record, he complied. The hit song "Dream On" featured on Aerosmith's first album. It is apparently the only track where Tyler used his "real" voice. In 2018, In the song was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame.
