Catelynn Lowell and Tyler Baltierra are a fan fave couple from MTV's Teen Mom and fans can catch up with them on Teen Mom OG. Being a reality star isn't all that easy, especially for a couple who goes through a lot of ups and downs.
Catelynn has grown up since her teen years and Catelynn and Tyler have a great relationship. But even though they seem to truly love each other and started dating at such a young age, it hasn't all been wonderful, and they are open about struggling. Let's take a look at their relationship.
'16 And Pregnant' And 'Teen Mom' Years
The Teen Mom OG stars have all been through so much and that includes Amber Portwood who came close to being fired.
Catelynn and Tyler have also experienced so many hard times in their young years. The pair was first introduced to the world on the MTV reality series 16 and Pregnant. They were expecting their first daughter, Carly, and living in a small town in Michigan. Tyler and Catelynn had been together for three years at that point and they knew that they were too young to raise their daughter. They chose a married couple named Theresa and Brandon and decided that they would be the best choices to adopt Carly.
Fans were taken in by this sweet young couple and how much they cared about each other. They also appeared on the spin-off Teen Mom and this gave fans a deeper look at their regular life. In the first season, Catelynn had to deal with her family, who didn't like that she gave Carly up for adoption, and she and Tyler got engaged.
In the second season, things got even more complicated as Tyler learned that Catelynn had slept with an ex-boyfriend, and that really hurt his feelings. In the fourth season, the couple graduated from high school, and then celebrated the happy news that they were expecting a baby.
Over the years on Teen Mom, the couple also shared their difficult family lives, as Tyler's dad Butch was in jail and Catelynn's mom April struggled with the adoption.
Wedding, Babies, And Tough Times
Catelynn and Tyler were meant to have their wedding day in July 2013 and Tyler decided they should wait to get married. According to Fame 10, Tyler said, “I thought I was ready, but as the time gets close, I just don’t think so." He wasn't able to let go of his anger over Catelynn dating someone else.
The couple had some great times after that, such as their wedding day in the summer of 2015. According to The Knot News, Tyler's vows were beautiful: he said, from middle school sweethearts at the tender age of 13, to two teens in a crisis facing the odds together. To becoming parents and building a household together. To playfully goofing around together like children, as if no one is watching. All of these things and many more are the reason I wanna make a promise to you…”
Catelynn had her second daughter, Novalee, at the beginning of 2015, and her third daughter, Vaeda, in 2019. According to Us Weekly, Catelynn said in December 2020 that she found out she was expecting her fourth child but, sadly, had a miscarriage. She had a miscarriage previously in 2017 and talked about how difficult both experiences were. She said, "I can tell that the mental health work I’ve done has had a huge impact because I wasn’t overcome by anxiety, but I was just sad. It was super early but, like I said before, it still hurts and all the excitement goes out the window.”
Separating?
Catelynn and Tyler lived away from each other for one month and people started talking about whether they were splitting up. According to E Online, this was a "trial separation."
Catelynn told E! News that this was a positive thing for her and Tyler. She said, "Our relationship, I feel like we're always strong. I think that we just go through bumps and it makes you stronger as a couple too, but yeah, we're in a really good place. Him and I, when we went through that trial separation period or whatever, we worked a lot on ourselves as individuals, but also ourselves as a couple. I learned a lot of things for myself during that period of time in my life."
According to Distractify.com, Catelynn told fans on social media that it was a "30 day reflection" and they were absolutely not going to end their marriage.
Fans of Teen Mom OG will recall that Catelynn talked about this break on the reality series and it was Tyler who thought it would be a good thing for the couple. Catelynn said, "We’ve been together for so long that it’s like, who are you as a person, by yourself?"
On May 18th, 2019, Tyler and Catelynn's biological daughter Carly celebrated her 11th birthday, and Catelynn shared birthday wishes on her Instagram account. She wrote, "Today you turn 11. Happy Birthday my sweet Carly. I love you big as the sky."
While Tyler and Catelynn have been through a lot, it's clear that they're devoted to one another, and they are definitely committed to staying together.
