Mary J Blige posted a luxe photo wishing her followers a happy Sunday. All they could focus on, however, was her stylish outfit. She tagged the designer of her featured fur coat, Nadeem Waheed of Daniels Leather.

Waheed, believe it or not, began his career path in the pursuit of STEM. Wild, extravagant coats weren't even in his peripheral vision, let alone his main focus. Now, he sells pieces for over $1,000.

Leather In The Big Apple

Daniels Leather tells a story on its "About" page about Waheed's change from engineering to the fashion industry.

Waheed details, "I arrived in the States in 1987 with a degree in civil engineering, Looking to obtain a Masters in Environmental Engineering and live the 'American Dream.' Everything went according to plan, like clockwork but something was missing, there was a void."

The Pakistan immigrant explained how his interest in leather goods grew through his family's long-held business. He opened his first store in 1992 on Orchard Street, the heart of leather and its experts, in New York City.

Working With Fatboy, Remy Ma, And More

The self-made businessman has worked with some of the most influential R&B and hip hop artists in the industry, including Diddy and Cardi B.

To thank his supporters and the community that has surrounded his success, he donated coats to schools in need during the pandemic.

According to a local news segment, Waheed created a voucher system for children in need to pick up free coats. One of his employees worded their kindness as an initial reaction, "If we can take care of the stars, why can't we take care of the future stars?"

Waheed described the joy he gave to others, over 1,000 children according to his donations the year prior, as the best feeling in the world.
