Kim Kardashian a former assistant to Paris Hilton in the early 2000s, accompanying her to all her evening events and getting her name out there. Kim was also a close friend of Paris Hilton dating back to their childhoods. It is a relationship spanning decades, but what went wrong between Paris and Kim?
The Early Days Of Kim’s And Paris’ Friendship
It is unclear when Kim and Paris’ friendship officially started, but according to interviews both have given, they have been friends on and off since they were “little girls”. They both grew up in affluent areas of Los Angeles and although they went to different schools, they had a mutual friend – Nicole Richie.
This leads us to The Simple Life years, 2003-2006. This was the period when Kim and Paris’ friendship was at an all-time high. The pair became inseparable during these years, and Kim was often seen on the arm of Paris Hilton at a variety of lavish events, even catching the eye of her future husband Kanye West.
These were the years that Kim would also be slowly starting to get her spot in the limelight, as Kardashian can be seen making several appearances on episodes of The Simple Life throughout the show’s run.
However, the friendship between Kim and Paris was about to get a lot more intense from 2006 onwards. This was because of the infamous feud that started between former BFF’s Paris Hilton and Nicole Richie. This volatile feud between The Simple Life stars allowed Kardashian to take Richie’s spot as Paris’ best friend.
Which is where Kardashian’s fame really started to snowball and Kardashian has even recalled that at this point in time, she and Paris were all about getting attention:
“We'd go anywhere and everywhere just to be seen. We knew exactly where to go, where to be seen, how to have something written about you.”
The sky was the limit for Paris and Kim in the mid-2000s but by 2008 their friendship started to turn sour and it became a very rocky road from then onwards.
Where Things Started To Go Wrong For Kim And Paris
2008 was the start of a turning point in Kim and Paris’s relationship, and it all started because of a radio interview Hilton gave back in April 2008. Paris stated that Kardashian’s butt looked like “cottage cheese stuffed in a trash bag” which seemed to trigger a feud that lasted for many years after.
Why Hilton would mention these comments on a radio interview about Kim has never been discussed, but Kardashian later said that Hilton did ring her up to apologize about the off-the-cuff comments. However, it didn’t seem to heal their friendship in the years that followed.
From 2011 onwards, Paris and Kim did not appear to be on speaking terms, and many people were left wondering what caused such close friends to give up on one another. Kardashian went on the record to say that they drifted apart:
"We don't really talk. As I always say, everyone comes into your life for a reason, a season, or a lifetime. And she was in my life for a long time ... There comes a point in life where you just grow apart and you realize you're not as similar as you thought. And I never run into her anywhere. Isn't that so weird?"
Why the pair truly drifted apart remains completely under wraps, but it turns out that they, in fact, reconcile again in 2014 and remained friends for a number of years. Kardashian even appeared in Hilton’s strange music video for Best Friend’s Ass.
Are Kim And Paris Friends Today?
It has been relatively quiet between the two of them on social media for the past few years but going off appearances they both appear to be friends on the surface nowadays.
In 2019 Kim Kardashian went to Paris Hilton’s birthday party, and they also celebrated New Year together, suggesting that all the bad blood between them in the past has been sorted out between them, and they have started a new chapter in their friendship.
Kardashian has even gone as far to credit Hilton for the success she has become today, and Hilton has recently praised Kardashian very highly:
“She’s sweet and kind and brilliant. I’m so proud of her and impressed with her becoming a lawyer”
It's safe to say that they are very good friends in 2020.
