In life, it is amazing how relative things tend to be. After all, one person can go to bed at night feeling like they had an awful day since something small didn’t go their way while at the same time there are loads of people who feel happy simply to live another day. With that in mind, it can often seem nearly impossible to feel sorry for most celebrities. After all, if you have real problems like wondering where are you going to live next month, it is hard to feel sympathy for the gripes of the rich and famous.

Of course, even though it may seem like most stars have nothing to worry about, that isn’t really the case as celebrities are human beings just like the rest of us and many of them have big problems. For example, there are a lot of celebrities who live with hidden disabilities and other stars are forced to live with chronic illnesses.

When anyone gets diagnosed with a serious health issue, it can be devastating for everyone who cares about them and the patient. On the bright side, some truly special people like the famous actor Selma Blair have so much inner strength that their battle against their ailment inspires the masses.

An Extremely Talented Performer

In an ideal world, every actor would get to enjoy the exact level of career success that their level of talent warrants. Unfortunately for Selma Blair, she doesn’t live in an ideal world because even though she rose to fame, she is talented enough that she should have become a massive movie star.

After starring in the sitcom Zoe, Duncan, Jack and Jane, Selma Blair’s career took off to a whole new level when she starred in the film Cruel Intentions. Cast as an initially extremely innocent character who quickly matures under the tutelage of a manipulative man, Blair proved that she could pull off a multifaceted role like that to perfection.

After Selma Blair became well known, she went on to prove that her early success wasn’t a fluke by being a part of several popular films and shows. For example, Blair was a memorable part of movies like Legally Blonde, The Sweetest Thing, and Hellboy. On top of those roles, Blair popped up in shows like Kath & Kim, Anger Management, and Another Life. Despite all of those roles, Blair deserved to headline a lot more projects.

A Life-Changing Diagnosis

In April 2021, Selma Blair took part in a Town and Country interview in which she revealed how she learned that she was suffering from a serious disease. In 2018, Blair was honored that designer Christian Siriano wanted her to walk the runway at their New York Fashion Week show. Unfortunately, before that event, Blair had suffered some numbness in her legs but as she was on the runway, things suddenly got a lot worse for her.

“It was on that runway, with the thrill of walking in the show, that I suddenly lost feeling in my left leg. But I was on a runway and thinking, What do I do?” Unlike the previous times that Blair could write off the numbness in her legs as nothing serious, she knew something was wrong after that runway event. After seeking out medical help, Blair would be diagnosed with Multiple sclerosis, a disease that hinders the body’s ability to send signals thus limiting movement.

An Amazing Woman

In 2018, Selma Blair took to her Instagram account to tell the world that she was living with MS. Instead of making her announcement all about herself or focusing on the dark side of her diagnosis, Blair decided to exhibit how thankful she is instead. While Blair’s touching post is too long to fully quote here, it is important to note that she starts by thanking all of the people who’ve helped her cope with her disease. From there, Blair goes on to be real about the fact that MS is very difficult to deal with before doing her best to inspire her fellow sufferers.

Of course, Selma Blair is far from the only person who has to deal with the complications of living with Multiple sclerosis. In fact, one of Blair’s former co-stars, Christina Applegate, has MS as well. Seemingly with that in mind, Blair has opted to be so open about how MS has affected her life that her actions can only be described as brave.

Unlike most people who want to keep their frail moments private for fear of embarrassment, Selma Blair has given several interviews in which she gave a face to coping with MS. In fact, Blair even allowed a documentary crew to follow her and film some of the hardest parts of her MS struggle including a hospital stay in which the actor’s head had to be shaved. Of course, Blair also struck a fierce pose when she walked the Oscars red carpet with a cane in 2019. In short, Blair has exhibited an amazing amount of strength and bravery at every turn since her diagnosis.
