When the temperature drops in September and October, we're always searching for a cozy movie to watch while enjoying a hot cup of coffee (maybe even a Pumpkin Spice Latte). One of the best rom-coms is You've Got Mail, and fans love watching Meg Ryan's character Kathleen Kelly walk around New York City in comfortable sweaters and layers. This movie truly doesn't get old. Meg Ryan shines as an optimistic character hoping that she'll keep her children's bookstore open... and if she can find love in the process, too, then that's a total bonus.

Mindy Kaling wants a You've Got Mail reboot, and we would love that too. In the meantime, it's fun to watch every romantic movie that Meg Ryan has starred in while wondering about her relationship with co-star Tom Hanks. In the past few years, people have started talking about something else, and that's Meg Ryan's face. Has she gotten plastic surgery? Let's take a look at the moment when fans started noticing Meg Ryan's changing face.

2016

When watching '90s and 2000s movies starring Meg Ryan, fans could always count on one thing: the actress always had a youthful glow. But then people started wondering if she had done any plastic surgery.

Fans thought Nicole Kidman's face changed and she's definitely not the only actress that seems to have had work done.

It was back in 2016 that fans began noticing that Meg Ryan's face looked different.

Dr. Mark Youssef explained in an interview with Hollywood Life that the actress had fillers in her cheeks. He explained, “The most obvious thing that she’s had done is some sort of filler or fat transfer to her cheek. It’s definitely too much because the apple of her cheek is too full and too large. When she smiles, all of that filler moves up and makes her eyes look smaller. The reason she looks masculine is because of the placement of the volume in her cheeks. The volume of the filler should have been placed more laterally to give her a softer look.”

Dr. Youssef also shared that from his perspective, it seemed like way too much plastic surgery: he said, “She may have done too much. I think that’s why people are a little shocked because she doesn’t look like the Meg Ryan that we all love.”

It's important to note that Meg Ryan hasn't admitted to having anything done, but people definitely think that she had cheek fillers.

Dr. Lyle M. Beck, a plastic surgeon, told Radar Online, "It looks like she's had multiple laser resurfacings, as well as way too much Botox and heavily pumped filler." The doctor also wondered if she had work done on her nose, saying, "Her nose is clearly altered."

What Do Fans Think?

We're all used to seeing celebrities with some Botox at this point, as we know that there is a lot of pressure. But what do fans think about the work that this favorite actress seems to have had done on her face?

When discussing Meg Ryan's alleged plastic surgery on Reddit, some fans said that there are two kinds of plastic surgeons: those who want a "natural" look and those who go for a more "artificial" appearance.

Several people commented that going to a good plastic surgeon means looking much more natural. One person wrote, "The best plastic surgeons I ever worked with would tell their clients, 'I am not going to make you look 10 years younger, I will make you look awesome for your age.'"

Other people replied in the Reddit thread that if someone is going to get plastic surgery, they should make sure that it looks "subtle" and they should know when to stop. Many people agree that Meg Ryan seems to have had quite a bit of work done to her face, and they wish that she had stopped sooner. Others aren't big fans of cheek fillers.

When Gwyneth Paltrow interviewed the actress at the In Goop Health conference in California once, Meg Ryan said, "When you get labeled anything, like America’s Sweetheart – I didn’t even know what that meant. It doesn’t necessarily imply that you’re smart or sexual or complicated or anything. It’s a label. And what can a label do but guess at you?”
