Rami Malek is set to appear in the latest installment of the James Bond movies, ‘No Time To Die’.

The actor plays the character of Safin alongside Daniel Craig, who is back as Bond. The film is premiering on September 28th in London.

But he almost didn’t end up making it in the movie, all due to his agent’s incompetence.

His Agent Never Told Him They Were Interested

The casting director for the film spoke with Entertainment Weekly magazine about how Rami came to be in the film - and how he almost wasn’t.

Debbie McWilliams said that the movie crew had been trying to reach out to him for some time, but the message was not getting past his agent.

“I had a very strange time trying to get Rami Malek into the room because, with all due respect to his agents, they didn’t really respond when I suggested that they might want to meet him,” Williams said.

She explained that because there are so many Bond films, you cannot just snag a role by replying to the job posting, but actually have to come in and meet with the casting team.

Williams said she ended up finally securing him for the role because she ran into him at an event, and decided to bring it up.

“I marched up to him and said, ‘Have you had any call from your agent about a James Bond film?’ He went, ‘No.’ And I said, ‘Well, we’ve been trying to meet you for quite a long time.’”

She says he called his agent right away and set up a casting meeting, and the rest was a done deal.

Williams said she’s glad her forwardness allowed them to cast Rami.

“I’ve learned to be quite bold. If you want something you go and get it.”
