The Office is without a doubt one of the most popular sitcoms in recent years. Not only was it incredibly successful during its initial run, but it's also one of the most popular streamed shows too.

While The Office is definitely an ensemble show, there's no denying that there were some characters that stood out over others. One of those characters is none other than Michael Scott, the manager at Dunder Mifflin. Let's face it, Michael Scott may not have been the best boss but he did always try, even though sometimes he shouldn't have. With all of Michael's failures came lots of laughs for the audiences making him a popular character.

10 "The Dundies" (Season 2, Episode 1)

After a short season one, The Office kicked things into high gear with the season two opening episode "The Dundies." In fact, it was so popular it was watched by over nine million people during its original broadcast.

Michael Scott is a standout character in this episode since he is the host and organizer of the office's annual award show. Unfortunately, corporate refuses to fund the awards and Michael must fund the whole thing which lands them in a Chili's where Michael gives out various awards while telling horrible jokes as the host.

9 "The Injury" (Season 2, Episode 12)

Continuing the high of the second season, "The Injury" raked in a whopping 10.3 million views and marked one of Michael Scott's most hilarious episodes to date.

In the episode Michael finds himself injured after he woke up and stepped on his George Foreman Grill he keeps plugged in by his bed so he can make bacon in bed. When Michael arrives at the office he expects everyone to be sympathetic to his pain but no one is. In true Michael Scott fashion, he takes his injury one step farther when he starts talking about how he is now disabled.

8 "The Convict" (Season 3, Episode 9)

Fans of The Office have a love/hate relationship with Michael Scott because he doesn't always come up with the best plans. Fans get a glimpse of Michael's well-intended but poorly executed plans in the season 3 episode 'The Convict."

After learning that one of his new employees has a prison record and actually enjoyed his time in prison, Michael sets out to prove to everyone that the office is better than prison. In the hopes of proving everyone right, Michael turns into "Prison Mike" and proceeds to torment the employees until they agree that the office is better than prison.

7  "Business School" (Season 3, Episode 17)

Michael Scott doesn't have a lot of tenderhearted moments but "Business School" is one of those times where Michael managed to not be the worst for two seconds.

Don't be fooled, Michael is definitely the worst for most of the episode while he gives a speech at Ryan's business school. But after tearing pages out of textbooks and badgering college students, Michael redeems himself by showing up at Pam's art show and buying her drawing of the Dunder Mifflin office building. It's a sentimental moment that proves that Michael really does care about his employees and his company.

6 "Safety Training" (Season 3, Episode 20)

Michael Scott once again takes things too seriously and too far in the season three episode "Safety Training."

After discussing the dangers of their respective jobs with Darryl the Warehouse Foreman, Michael makes it his mission to prove that office life is the most dangerous. Eventually, this leads Michael to start talking about the mental dangers of the job which lands him on the roof as he contemplates jumping to his death. While suicide is not a laughing matter, there's something awkwardly hilarious about watching Michael contemplating jumping off the roof into a bounce house.

5 "Dinner Party" (Season 4, Episode 13)

"Dinner Party" is a special episode in the history of The Office. Not only is Michael Scott hilarious and dysfunctional in it, but it was also the show's first original episode in five months due to the 2007-2008 Writers Guild of America strike.

In the episode, Michael invites some of his employees over to his condo he shares with Jan. The dinner party takes a turn when Michael tries to get everyone to invest in Jan's candle-making business which leads to him and Jan getting into a heated argument.

4 "Golden Ticket" (Season 5, Episode 19)

"Golden Ticket" isn't a memorable Michael Scott episode because he was likable in it, in fact, it's the exact opposite. Fans are drawn to this episode because of how horrible Michael is in it.

In the episode, Michael decides to channel Willy Wonka by hiding five golden tickets into five different boxes of paper, promising whoever finds them a ten percent discount on paper for the year. However, the plan backfires when one company finds all five and expects 50% off their orders, threatening the lively hood of the employees.

3 "Scott's Tots" (Season 6, Episode 12)

Many fans will agree that "Scott's Tots" is not only one of the best Michael Scott episodes, but also one of the best The Office episodes of all time.

Ten years ago Michael promises a group of underprivileged students that he would pay for their college tuition as long as they graduated high school. Unfortunately, Michael's career path hasn't gone as expected and when it comes time to make good on his promise, he can't. Instead of being upfront with the students, Michael drags the whole charade on until he finally confesses and disappoints the students.

2 "Garage Sale" (Season 7, Episode 19)

While Michael Scott never lost his sense of humor and interesting management styles, he did become slightly more bearable in later seasons once he started dating Holly. The episode has gone on in history as having one of the cutest proposals of all time.

After deciding its time to propose to Holly, Michael faces another obstacle as he tries to plan the perfect proposal. In the end, his employees swoop in to help him think of a better plan which includes hundreds of lit candles in the office where he first met and fell in love with Holly.

1 "Goodbye, Michael" (Season 7, Episode 22)

It's always hard when lead characters leave television shows and it was exceptionally hard for The Office especially since Michael Scott was such a stable. Thus, his departure led to one of the most emotional episodes of The Office and one of Michael's best episodes.

Not wanting to make his departure a big deal, he tells everyone that his last day really isn't his last day. Still, he goes around the office saying goodbye to his employees all the while getting cold feet about his decision to move. Things only get worse when Pam leaves the office early without seeing Michael.
