Despite being one of the best-selling pop stars of all-time, Britney Spears fortune would tell you otherwise. The blonde beauty has enjoyed a stellar three-decade-long career in the entertainment industry, but following an infamous meltdown in 2007, several bad financial decisions, and an ongoing court battle with her father Jamie over her conservatorship, Brit has lost a lot of money.

While the likes of Kylie Jenner and Kanye West can brag about their billionaire status thanks to their successful brands, Britney’s net worth continues to decline, having recently been valued at just $60 million, which is shocking considering all the millions she’s earned since the release of her 1999 debut album, …Baby One More Time.

So what’s happened to Britney’s money and why is she only worth $60 million?

Britney’s Fortune Continues To Decrease

It’s no surprise that Britney has been losing a lot of money since she’s reportedly refusing to continue releasing music until she’s freed from her conservatorship that’s overseen by her dad whom the “Stronger” hitmaker hasn’t gotten along with since the summer of 2019.

Jamie caused headlines in September 2019 after reports claimed he had gotten into a physical altercation with his daughter’s son Sean Preston, leading Brit’s ex Kevin Federline to file a police report at the 68-year-old.

The incident also led Britney’s custody agreement to be revised, with Kevin receiving Sean and Jayden 70 percent of the time while their mother was left with the remaining 30 percent.

While this hasn’t been confirmed, considering how Britney and K-Fed once shared the same amount of custodial rights over their children together, with the former backup dancer having the boys on more occasions than their mom, that could mean he’s subsequently earning a higher fee in child support payments.

Meanwhile, in November 2020, Us Weekly claimed that the 39-year-old was refusing to carry on working until she was let out of her 12-year conservatorship, which has refrained her from having control over personal affairs, business, and how much money she can spend in a month.

Britney is adamant that she no longer needs to be guided or told how to live her life by her dad, and until the court-ordered motion is lifted, she won’t get back in the recording studio and work on new music material — even if the decision could cost the singer her career.

“Britney has expressed that she doesn’t want to work again because she doesn’t want to continue to essentially keep herself under the conservatorship. Britney resents that her dad is given a monthly allowance which is around $10,000 a month for his services overseeing her finances.”

It should also be noted that Britney, who hasn’t released an album since 2016’s Glory, continues to pay hundreds of thousands in fees to the people who work with Jamie in overseeing the conservatorship, on top of the money that her father gets for his supervision.

In December 2020, Jamie came forwarded to speak his mind following months of online abuse from Britney’s fans who insisted that the “Toxic” star was being unfairly treated by her dad.

Jamie had claimed in court papers that his daughter was mentally incapable of taking care of herself yet he had no issue with her embarking on grueling world tours and fronting Las Vegas residencies for a two-year period.

The latter was firm with his words to CNN, asserting that Brit needs all the support she can get, and while the two have had their ups and downs in the past year, he stressed that he wouldn’t stop helping his daughter with her mental health condition for as long as the court continues to believe his contributions to the conservatorship remain valid.

“I love my daughter and I miss her very much. When a family member needs special care and protection, families need to step up, as I have done for the last 12-plus years, to safeguard, protect and continue to love Britney unconditionally.

“I have and will continue to provide unwavering love and fierce protection against those with self-serving interests and those who seek to harm her or my family.”

Jamie’s attorney Vivian Lee Thoreen echoed similar words by claiming that the relationship his client shares with Britney is no different than the one that others share with their father, adding that despite all that’s been said in the press, the two were still on speaking terms with one another.

“Jamie’s relationship with Britney is not that different than your average father-daughter relationship insofar as there has always been a mutual love and respect for each other,” she explained.

“Until Britney’s court-appointed attorney Sam Ingham abruptly instructed Jamie not to contact Britney a few months ago, Jamie and Britney had spoken often and regularly throughout the entire conservatorship. In fact, they had spoken just the day before and had had a pleasant and collaborative conversation.”
