2018 was quite the year for rap feuds — most notably the rivalry between Nicki Minaj and Cardi B. The “Bodak Yellow” hitmaker had lost her cool at the Harper’s Bazaar ICONS Party in September of that year after crossing paths with Minaj, who she accused of talking ill about her then-newborn daughter, Kulture.

This infamously led Cardi to throw her shoe in Minaj’s direction before a brawl ensued and ended with the 28-year-old leaving the event with a huge knot on her head, which unconfirmed reports claimed was the result of socialite Rah Ali defending the undisputed Queen of Rap.

While Cardi never showed any evidence that would incriminate Minaj of any said bad behavior, the two female rappers’ feud would reach new heights in October 2018 following an episode of Queen Radio where the “Super Bass” chart-topper addressed the fiasco.

Following a back-and-forth quarrel over social media, Cardi claimed that she had been turning down several endorsement deals and collaborations because she was so busy, adding that everything she had declined was later passed down to Minaj, including her feature on the 2018 track “Woman Like Me” by British girl group Little Mix.

The latter, however, came forward and strongly denied Cardi’s comments as they not only showed prove that Minaj had always been their first choice for the feature but that the girls were also #TeamNicki. Here’s the lowdown…

Little Mix Slam Cardi B

After hearing Minaj talk about the altercation at the Harper’s Bazaar event on Queen Radio, Cardi wasted no time hopping on social media to try and clear her name on several comments made by the “Monster” rapper.

First, Cardi insisted that Minaj “can’t keep up with your lies” after the latter said she had footage of her rival getting attacked after launching herself at Minaj and her crew.

During her taping of Queen Radio, Minaj remained adamant that she was not going to put the video footage out to save Cardi the embarrassment, to which the New Yorker claimed she didn’t get beat up and that Minaj was lying about having any footage of the brawl as it took place.

She then went on to insist that the deal Minaj had signed with Diesel to front their latest ad campaign was initially offered to the Grammy award winner, but because she had been so occupied with other career moves, she had to decline the proposal.

And if that wasn’t enough, Cardi then alleged that before Minaj hopped on Little Mix’s “Woman Like Me” track, the song was first presented to her — but, once again, she turned the track down because she already had multiple featured songs on the radio and her record label decided it’d be better not to plaster herself to every track just for the sake of it.

Because of this, Cardi said Minaj was offered a featured spot on the song, giving off the impression that the “WAP” entertainer had became the most sought-after female rapper in hip hop.

“Then, that Woman Like Me record … Yeah I had to decline it because I’m doing a lot of pop records so I can’t over exaggerate myself but that came to me first,” she ranted in an Instagram video posted in October 2018.

While Minaj took her time to respond, Little Mix felt inclined to clear the air and set the record straight right away because, according to their statement, their first choice had always been Minaj from the start.

“Sorry Cardi hun but this is the tea. We’ve always wanted the queen (no shade),” the statement read. “We went with Nicki because like we’ve said over the years, it’s been a dream of ours to work with her since the beginning.”

This prompted Minaj to follow up with a tweet of her own, which read, “The only rapper in the history of rap who can only talk about deals and songs she’s supposedly turned down cuz she can’t talk about a verse she’s ever written. Fraud.”

But it still wasn’t over after that because TMZ then came forward with their sources, confirming Little Mix’s statement that the girls first approached Minaj to hop on the track, adding that Cardi was their backup option in case the Trinidadian-born superstar didn’t like the song.

“Cardi B was Little Mix's backup option for their song because Nicki Minaj took her damn sweet time and had them panicking,” the publication noted.

"They had indeed reached out to Nicki first to get her on their hit single but they needed a plan B when the "Queen" MC dragged her feet in submitting her verse, and then kept rewriting it.

“That plan B was Cardi -- as Little Mix had also expressed interest in working with her since she was the hottest female rapper in the game. We're told LM's record label was breathing down their necks to meet the deadline, so they hit up Cardi's camp with the request.”
