Nicole Kidman doesn't really talk much about her 11-year marriage to Tom Cruise. It hasn't been that clear whether they've remained on good terms following their 2001 divorce. The Academy Award-winning actress also has a vague relationship with her adopted children with the Mission Impossible star, 28-year-old daughter Bella and son Connor, 26. Cruise ended up retaining custody of the children who chose to stay with him. But the custody agreement fell out around 2004 when Kidman was away a lot filming Cold Mountain in Romania.

When she returned hoping she could spend time with her kids, she was surprised to find out that Bella and Connor had gone to a Scientology summer camp instead. By 2005, they were already living with the actor full-time and were homeschooled by his sister Cass. For a time the exes seemed to be getting along as co-parents. The kids were even at Kidman's wedding to Keith Urban in 2006. But the last time they were seen with her in public was in 2007.

In 2019 the Moulin Rouge! star wasn't present in Connor's wedding despite his claims of having a "solid" relationship with his mom. Here's what really happened.

What Is Connor Cruise Up To Now?

Connor Cruise made headlines in 2016 when he DJed at Temple Nightclub in San Francisco for his 21st birthday. Apparently, he had been a DJ since 2011 when he was only 16. He managed to keep his career booming under the radar, clearly without the need to use his A-list parents' connection. He even released a track on Spinnin Records under their sister label Oxygen. But in 2018, it seemed like he'd already put his music career on the back burner... to be a fisherman.

The second child of the Eyes Wide Shut stars surprised everyone when he started posting recent pictures of him on his fishing trips. He now looks more mature and different from widely shared photos of him as a teen. Connor has also created a food Instagram called Connor's Meatshack. Some are saying he might be on his way to becoming an influencer. But one of the major highlights of his adult life was his wedding to fellow Scientologist Silvia Zanchi in 2019. Kidman wasn't invited. She was also absent in Bella's wedding to Max Parker in 2015.

Tom Cruise Reportedly Banned Nicole Kidman From Attending Connor's Wedding

Sources close to Tom Cruise revealed that he instructed to ban Nicole Kidman from their son's wedding. "Tom is behind this and what he wants is as good as law. Tom made the call and Connor followed," an insider told Radar. "Connor worships the ground his father walks on and would never disobey Tom." It was obviously a Scientology wedding. Since Kidman was called a "suppressive person" by the church during her split with Cruise, it's understandable why he would prevent her from attending the ceremony.

"First, Tom would never even consider inviting Nicole to Connor's wedding because she's considered a 'suppressive person' by the church — and, second, he doesn't want her there," the source added. "Tom turned his back on Nicole a long time ago and he's never looked back."

According to The Church of Scientology's website, a suppressive person is someone who "seeks to suppress other people in their vicinity. A Suppressive Person will goof up or vilify any effort to help anybody and particularly knife with violence anything calculated to make human beings more powerful or more intelligent." The site also says that it's "also known as the Anti-Social Personality." It's a pretty serious label. Still, throughout the years the Big Little Lies star hasn't spoken about the involvement of her ex-husband and children in the controversial religious movement.

Nicole Kidman's Relationship With Connor Cruise Today

Ex-Scientology member Leah Remini wrote in her book Troublemaker: Surviving Hollywood and Scientology that she was shocked to find out that Bella and Connor didn't have a relationship with their mom. She learned about it in 2006 when she met the children at Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes' wedding. "When I asked if she talked to her mom, Bella scoffed and said, 'Not if I can help it, she's a f--king SP [suppressed person]'. Connor just looked out the window. There was something human about his silence and the sadness I felt in it," Remini alleged.

But both Bella and Connor claim that they've maintained a relationship with their mom. "Of course [we talk], they're my parents. Anyone who says otherwise is full of [expletive]," Bella said in an interview in 2016. Two years before that, Connor echoed the same sentiment when questioned about his bond with Kidman. "I love my mom. I don't care what people say, I know that me and mom are solid. I love her a lot. My family means everything. Yeah, I love my music, but the family comes before everything else," the former DJ said in an interview where he also raved about his visit to his mom in Australia, his "second home."
