According to Naya Rivera’s dad, George Rivera, a lot of false promises have been made by Glee show creator Ryan Murphy, who promised to set up a college fund for the late actress’ son, Josey, following her death in a tragic accident last summer.

George has lashed out on social media, insisting that Ryan hasn’t kept his word among other not-so-nice things that certainly made people look at the famous TV mogul in a different light.

Since Naya’s dad made his bold accusations on social media, it was only right that Ryan would respond — and his way of words would indicate that he has, in fact, opened a college fund for Naya’s child.

Naya shared a close relationship with her former boss, who has openly said that he was absolutely heartbroken by the Hollywood star’s death. So what’s the misunderstanding between Ryan and George? Here’s the lowdown…

What Did George Rivera Accuse Ryan Murphy Of Not Doing?

In July 2020, Naya tragically lost her life when she drowned during a boating trip with Josey out in California. When her body was finally found after an extensive three-day search in Lake Piru, many of Naya’s former work colleagues spoke out to pay tribute to their friend.

"She was beyond a force, she was everything you could imagine. Talented, smart, stunning, and most of all present,” former co-star Dot-Marie Jones wrote in a lengthy Instagram caption after Naya’s death was confirmed.

“As I have said since day one working with her and just being around this amazing woman, she’s the real deal! No bulls--t, not fake, what you saw is what you got and I love and respect her for that.”

“You were one of the first people who made me feel like family when others saw me as an outsider,” Chord Overstreet, who played Sam Evans on the FOX sitcom, expressed. “I didn’t know then that you would become my family and that’s just who you were to everyone.. A Mother, Sister, Daughter and most of all a friend.”

That same month, Ryan and co-creators Brad Falchuk and Ian Brennan revealed they had created a college fun for Naya’s son.

“Naya wasn’t a series regular when we cast her on Glee. She didn’t have more than a few lines in the pilot. But it didn’t take more than an episode or two for us to realize that we had lucked into finding one of the most talented, special stars we would ever have the pleasure of working with,” the Glee creators wrote in a statement.

“She was warm and caring and fiercely protective of the rest of the cast. She was tough and demanding. She was fun. She was kind. She was generous.

“There were ups and downs during the wonderful and stressful years we spent making Glee. We disagreed, we fought, we made up, then we fought some more, then we made up again. The kinds of things that happen in a family. Naya was more than just an actor on our show — she was our friend.

“The three of us are currently in the process of creating a college fund for the beautiful son Naya loved most of all.”

In March 2020, however, George alleged that those promises weren’t kept as the college fund still hasn’t been set up — at least to his understanding.

“Everyone needs to know what Ryan Murphy really did ... or didn’t do !!! I’m about to blow up this story .... and make sure he’s knows that I know …” he wrote on Twitter.

It wasn’t long before Ryan would respond to stress to everyone, including George, that he and his team have been closely working with the Naya Rivera Estate Trust in handling everything concerning the college fund.

The TV honcho heavily insinuated that George perhaps has no involvement or access to the estate, which is why he’s not aware of the supposed fact that Ryan did keep to his word after all.

“Myself, Brad Falchuk, and Ian Brennan have committed to create a college fund for Naya Rivera’s child Josey through the Naya Rivera Estate Trust. We have been in repeated conversations with the appropriate executors of her estate.”

The tweet has since amassed well over 6,000 likes and over 750 comments.

Naya landed the role of Santana Lopez back in 2009 when she was cast in Glee, alongside Lea Michele, Amber Riley, and Corey Monteith.

After six years and six whopping seasons, the family series came to an end, propelling Naya to try out for other roles such as Blanca Alvarez in Devious Maids and Step Up: High Water.
